Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Had these two over the last few days, $25 at BWS (recently the 2018 was on clearance). For me this is far better value than Nebu despite the full price of Reservation being “only” $50.

Funny that, I got some Reservations 2018s given to me as a birthday gift and I could not stand them. I would not pay $10 for it. I maybe wrong but I think it is Dan/BWS exclusive offering. But I really liked Chris Ringland North Barossa Shiraz 2016.
Horses for courses.

Hell yes! The 2016 North Barosaa Shiraz was cracking - anything similar at a similar price going around?

I had the 18 too recently. Alcohol was too intense even after decanting so I had a glass and put it back in the wine fridge. It was much better the next day after it mellowed down, something that age already did for the 14 & 15 but yea it all comes down to personal taste in the end of the day. I like most of Chris Ringland’s wines, he represents Barossan style very well IMO

Yes to me the alcohol burn of 2018 Reservations was unbearable. I sent the rest of mine to Langtons.

For those after a cheap quaffer from Dans (and this is working in QLD so not sure about elsewhere), but if you add 12 bottles of Torbreck Woodcutters Shiraz to your cart, the price goes from $29.29 per bottle down to $11.90 per bottle, or $142.80 for a dozen. Even cheaper if you have discounted gift cards.

Haven't had this wine for many years and can't remember if it's any good, but interested if people think it's worth it at that price.

I had some recently, not a $30 wine but nevertheless a very enjoyable drop at around early $20s and an absolute bargain at that price.

I had it (2018 I think) at a restaurant and enjoyed it. I have some Struie and found that it is not far from it. So well worth even at its RRP. Found 26 bottles at my local Dan (to split with cpl of mates) and applying $50 coupon and gift cards brought it well under $10 a bottle.

Of the wines going for around $30 mark what are people preferring instead?
I never tasted Nebu but you can get a case of Leasingham Classic Clare Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 at $30 on CellarOne atm and I personaly find it really nice. The Shiraz from the same label is pretty good too.

One time, I found wood chips inside a bottle of Chris Ringland Shiraz (I believe to give some oak flavour without having to age the wine in barrel). I think it is a common practice in Australia but Old World me can't help, I had to write off this winery.

Well played. Guess I'd better get some as well

I've tried about 8 store's within a reasonable distance and not one has a dozen available. I might try again over the weekend.

Wood chips (in stainless steel fine mesh) or staves are quite often used in cheaper wines in tanks to impart oak flavours. The wines are fined and filtered before going into tanks for bottling and I've never seen any actual remnants of oak chips in a wine, your experience is the first I've heard.
The cheaper Chris Ringlands at DM/BWS may not be made by him, the Reservation certainly has input from him and would be in barrels only, and that's just the low levels of a winemaking genius/legend.

It works for delivery for some addresses, I have 2 dozen on the way from Sydney to an ACT address, but it's stopped working for me now. I managed one order with added items to get over $300 and used JUNE50 for $50 off.

If I remember correctly it was the CR.

Great pick up. Worked for me at Victoria Point QLD
