Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Thanks OW, always good to get a fellow punter's impression, it might be complete conjecture but I'm beginning to wonder whether 2017 was as good as 2016 as I've had a number of mediocre reds from 2017 that I've had to send back...
Halliday was a big promoter of the (cooler) 2017 vintage in South Australia, but I've not often found that I agree with his ratings for wines of that vintage and bought many less than for 2016.
I think the large number of 2017 reds (at many price-points) still being offered at huge discounts over 5 years after vintage speaks to the "market" assessment.

Interesting reveal on their "About us" page:

This unique wine brand began to bear fruit after three friends – one a renowned winemaker, one a fourth-generation grape grower and the third, Freddy, then a wine sales consultant – stumbled across this 1940’s vineyard and recognized the quality of the fruit.

Freddie has since immersed himself in winemaking and has discovered his own wine style, which is very appealing to the Asia market.

Originally I thought it was Chateau Tanunda but I could not find it. I think it might be this one 2016 Greenock Estate Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon but need to find SK 94 point review to confirm
Greenock Estate
Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Rating: 94
Gorgeously maturing and complex with blackcurrant, dried herb, smoked game and tapenade aromas, it's beautifully rounded in the mouth displaying excellent weight and flow. Classically structured by fine texture and grainy tannins, finishing impressively long and savoury. At its best: now to 2028. $60.00. www.greenockestate.com. April 2022.

Had a couple of 2017 Reynella Shiraz and found it too thin and lackluster. Medium finish at best and I ended up selling them. Maybe it was the year or maybe I was unlucky with my batch, however it wasn't a patch on their previous vintages.
Interesting they have priced the 2016 cabernet higher than the 2017 shiraz

Both of these cancelled export dozens are available at $140, free join-up to Tahbilk, any opinions (another "sorely tempting" moment)?

Is it the Estate wine in different bottle format?

Shiraz has sold out already, Cab Sav still available at the moment...

Yep, and 2017 was the vintage the JF at Winecompanion gave the shiraz an 87 and the CS 85. Cellarone has been trying to shift this vintage for ages...

I would rather if forced to buy either Raynella 2017 Shiraz or 2016 Cab Sav - pay $5 extra and grab 2016

What's the most efficient way to get Laithwaites stuff, including whitelabels? (I know about Virgin Wines but are there other worthwhile ones?)

My wife wants to get the advent calendar, and I know there are intermittent Amex Offers and/or increased cashbacks at Cashrewards/Shopback, but I don't want to wait too long lest they sell out.

Not much experience with Amarone in general but I found this one too sweet for my liking - almost headache inducing
