Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Anyone tried the Coravin pivot wine keeper. Does it work well for you?
I was told by a couple of people who work in wine that they didn't feel like it was worth it.

No doubt there would be some benefit, but don't think it would be any better than a coravin with the screw cap accessories (which sucks btw).

I personally wouldn't pick up a pivot - we were at a relatively fancy restaurant today and saw one sitting on the bench, they were using vacuvin for the by the glass wines... we've been to a number of CDs that do use the screw cap attachment (Clonakilla comes to mind) and I've seen them used at Muse in the Hunter. Pivot just seems like an attempt to tap into a more casual market.

I have the timeless three, it’s a little more than the pivot. It works well for me. I’ve got three bottles on the go at the moment.

1 Riesling & 1 Chardonnay - my wife doesn’t drink white and I quite often just want one glass.

1 expensive red - allows me to open something and savour it over a few sittings without oxidising.

I also use it to have a Pinot and a Shiraz or Cab running but not finish each. As I generally try not to drink Mon-Thur this avoids spoiling.

Are you using it for screwcaps or just with cork? As I love the coravin for cork.

I just started using it with screw caps and I haven’t had any problems on a 1 month old Riesling. I do think I’d probably typically use screwcap within 8 weeks. Whereas cork I’d be happy to let go for 6+ months.

I’ve got a pivot and love it. As others have said, allows to have a few wines on the go and just drink a glass without quality suffering significantly. I’d tried a few of the other stopper type things and they did nothing imo.

Given how easy it is to start a new thread, I wonder whether discussion about Coravin and other similar topics would be better in its own thread.

That way we could keep the wine deals thread on topic.

Just a thought.
I'm not sure a small discussion warrants a whole new thread.

Plenty of threads don't get used as it is.

Probably could start a thread called Wine g
Gadgets or something?

Might be enough to keep the discussion ticking, but there's actually not even a General Wine Talk thread, which could be an option.

Why do all the wines I love keep going up in price faster than inflation.
First it was Penfolds 707 and now i just saw Cullen’s Diana Madeline is now $150.

Plenty of entire forums barely get used as it is.

Back on topic - I have heaps of Dan Murphy’s gift cards burning a whole in my pocket but jeez it’s hard to fine wine of the excellent value we’d seen a while back. They’ve still got good beer specials etc but really seem to have limited wine stock of better pricing than other places now

What kind of wine do you drink?

Leo Burning was $14 members special, cracking Riesling at that price.

Good one @Daver6 .
My cardiologist wants me to do the red wine so who am I to argue.
Almost no beer these days and I avoid those cough new craft beers that I consider to be close to undrinkable.
Mrscove has ordered 2 sets of the Coravin Pivot from Kitchen Warehouse this morning. Will mean I can enjoy less more often.
