There are a lot of 'whilst stocks last' specials at First Choice right night. We've seen these types of 'clearance' sales at First Choice previously. It's somewhat like BWS do, but a lot less regular. These will be store specific items/prices - no way to see these online. I visited my local First Choice yesterday and came away with 20 bottles.

What did you find that was worthwhile to buy Dr Ralph? Were there any higher RRP wines brought down to the $10 or $20+ range? Just wondering if it's worth having a gander around a few stores today, went to my local and there was nothing much going on.

Theory of everything is normally $15-$18
Neon Jungle Malbec use to be $12+

$5 is decent, there may of been more but the dockets don't say the original price. There was definitely alot marked down in the rows at $5, I noticed the empty lanes so I assume the good stuff with super heavy discounts people went a bit crazy.

First choice isn't really near me, or I'd drive to a few different stores etc

Picked up a Neon Jungle Malbec and Katnook Squire's CM for $5 each. Happy with those for finishing off after gravy made

Went and had a look. A lot of it was Coles owned brands. Nothing super premium, or even semi premium.

Not much high end stuff this time around. I have had luck with previous similar sales though. But remember this is clearly store specific.

It could be fine, but you shouldn't be looking to keep any long term.

I'm not looking to disagree with you but it might be a question of the winemaker's approach and changing styles, you're right though, I wouldn't be laying it down that's for sure...

Grenache from McLaren Vale isn't really built to cellar, that's what I've heard time & time again.

It could be fine, but you shouldn't be looking to keep any long term.

I'd disagree here, that's quite a broad brush. Most quality examples will age beautifully up to 10 years. Anything from Yangarra, Thistledown, Vanguardist, Aphelion, etc. will age a treat.

This is straight from multiple wine makers, however I am sure some examples cellar okay.

Obviously top-end Grenache, as top Shiraz is built for aging.

General Grenache from the region, from discussions I've had isn't great for cellaring above 5 or 6 years.

Anything can be aged, it doesn't mean it'll improve the wine.

Add some aged Clarendon Grenache from McLaren Vale to the list. Have some 2013 Kangarilla and it drinks just beautifully - I would estimate another 3-5 years before it declines.
