Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Surely no one in this thread is buying the new Penfolds today. You'll get it at least 30% cheaper by being patient.
I have friends who are serious wine wankers and in more normal times go to a fair few wine tastings with them. Plenty of the people there are at every serious wine tasting so you get to know the faces and chat to them. These are guys who are quite prepared to shell a fair bit for good wines, but what I’ve found is that Penfolds is not on their lists and hasn’t been for years. Each to their own but I totally agree with their judgement and advice that there are plenty of better wines at cheaper prices available elsewhere.

How frustrating picked up DM giftcards, had $10 left over to pay for the LEAS and kept getting payment declines (money will draw from paypal and then get refunded...).

Cashback now over, doh.

Plenty of people would rather buy from reputable sources, where you know the wine has been stored correctly.

Take into account retail stores, like BWS and Liquorland don't exactly store bottles well. Most are in direct light all the time, which isn't ideal and definitely not temperature controlled.

I'm sure for most wines it's OK, but if you're spending big $$$ you don't want to serve friends, or guests bad wine.

Seeking recommendations please - I have $60 cellar one $$ plus a birthday voucher burning a hole in my pocket.. hit me with your top CO wines please 🙏

Are we sure cellar one still does birthday vouchers? Pretty sure I never received one last year. Or maybe I didn't meet a spend threshold?
Yes I received this morning 😍only valid for 2 days though- not sure about spend thresholds
I bought the 3 pack Chardonnay for $59 after a birthday voucher
Haven't tried any but reviews are not bad and I need some diversity from my usual full reds

Thanks. I do love a good chard

Just from a personal experience, these vouchers last a lot longer than the specified 2 days expiry. No spend thresholds AFAIK. Unless they changed the rules on both. And happy bday btw!

I last bought a Penfolds wine in 2014 (2010 St Henri). I've tasted some since, at Show tastings and elsewhere, but I don't even buy them for my own group tasting flights now. Good luck to them and their shareholders, but they won't get any of my wine-buying budget.

Fair enough. I like some of their reds and buy them when they are at a good price point, like the Bin 28 below $25.

TWE obviously owns many other brands frequently spoken about in the forum like Wynns.

One or two bottles of Wynns left in my cellar, some Annies Lane Coppertrail, 6 Coldstream Hills Deer park Pinot, 4 Devils Lair Cabernet 2012, 3 vintages of Lindemans Limestone Ridge (total 10), a few Pepperjack Sparkling Shiraz, some Saltram #1 from 4 vintages (total 14), some Seppelt St Peters and a heap of Show Reserve Sparkling Shiraz 2008 from DM at under $60pb, a total of 70 bottles various vintages of Wold Blass Grey, Brown and Black label. That's it for TWE out of a cellar stock of around 3,000 bottles.

I'm so glad someone actually has more wine than me
