Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Not a bargain and this post probably should go in one of the photo threads. But I figure followers of this thread will understand.

My nearby BWS is very small with narrow aisles. Despite this, many people take shopping trolleys in.:rolleyes:

Trolleys crashing into knees, ankles and the shelves is common.

So imagine my horror to find these four quaffers perched precariously on the end of a row just waiting to be knocked off by a wonky trolley. o_O

Keep an eye on those, once they start to get discounted the price might drop further up to 50% off if they will be eventually deleted from that store.

Reminds me I still have an order from last year waiting for collection in a Sydney BWS. Had to cancel planned trips twice already due to travel restrictions :(

I ended up trying Richard Hamilton Farm Twelve Mourvédre 2017 (sold as a hidden label https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_MYSTERY549/under-wraps-mclaren-vale-mourv-dre-2017)

I did put a mouth guard in before tasting just in case! Even though I would not describe that it tastes like someone punched you in the face, I get it why it could be described that way.

it has a sharp kick of fruit before tasting earthiness and somewhat leatherish ..definitely on a savoury side, full bodies and rather firm tannins with a satisfying finish. I thought it was a well made wine and well worth $9 paid.

We tasted this right after finishing a bottle of Auld William Patrick Barossa Shiraz 2016 that I bought in the same pack. It is pretty much a very well made old school big full bodied fruit driven bold Barossa Shiraz that is made like a traditional Penfold Shiraz. Well worth even a full $50 price so an absolute bargain for $21 as a hidden label! I preferred the Shiraz but two other people I was tasting with thought that the Mourvédre was a better wine!

The other two wines I got in the same pack were The Remarkable State 1836 Mclaren Vale Malbec 2017 and Hares Chase Cellar Reserve 100 Year Old Vine Grenache 2018 sold as underwraps deal https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_MYSTERY528/under-wraps-barossa-valley-grenache-2018 And I tried them yesterday.

I didn't like the Grenache at all, it was flat, uninspiring and boring with hardly any finish. The description stated a 'fine acid" but I could not feel any at all. Not really having much luck with Grenache from Dan Murphy as it was the second one I tried. Perhaps that is the reason for a $9 price tag!

Malbec was a bit better but still didn't have the Oomph that I excepted. Would stick with Mendoza Malbecs from now on. Can't really recommend it even at a deep discounted price it is being cleared at the moment.

to be honest, most of these are a chance for me, as they mostly seem to be woolworths exclusive imports, so ive gone off the fact that they all rate 3.8-4.1 on Vivino and that at an average of $20 a bottle, its worth a punt.

Thanks for the reviews. I am yet to try the Malbec and Grenache, but I liked the Kangarilla Road Sangiovese and just purchased another 4 bottles. I found it very smooth and easy to drink. I agree with Halliday's review "A pleasant version of sangiovese, with no hidden tannin (or other) traps." Let me know what you think once you try it.

I have added a 6th bottle of some random plonk just to see, but didn't get 10% discount for some reason. So I deleted the 6th bottle as I only added it to see if I get a 6 bottle discount. Maybe I was doing something wrong

No 10% applied to the order I just placed for 6 either.
all 6 were 50% off regular BWS prices + 20% SB so still worth doing

It may have been you selected a supersaver item or one of the 2for$X0 items for the 6th. They dont get added to the 10% bottle count.

unfortunately they only had 3 bottle of CDP and 2 bottles of Tuscan, I would have loved to get one more bottle of Tuscan but that was all they had. The other shops had even less of the special stock.

Oh well, still happy with the purchase!

Yes, i’ve done 2 rounds on those BWS imports and thought I had enough but the 20% extra is tempting. I’d grab some of that Kangarilla Road too but it’s not available in my location...
