Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Does anyone know if the bonus bottles on cellardoor.co offers such as Mixed Top of The Tree Chardonnay + Bonus Bottle (single bottle) should arrive together?
In my experience, bonus bottles have generally arrived a couple days later. It uses the same shipping info though, so if you have the AusPost app, it should still show a parcel to be delivered.

So that wouldnt fall into the price matching exceptions for Dans?

Under the dry rules this will not be eligible for PM because it doesn’t show online but we know by now the dry rules don’t always (almost never) apply at DM ;)

Many Thanks Dr Ralph - I was a little concerned on the 2004 based on some reviews I had seen - sounds like it should all be Ok 👍
I'm really not so sure about that one.,, I've been buying chalambars for more than 20 yrs and the 2004 and 2006 aren't set up to last as well as the later ones. Would love to be proved wrong as Chalambar is a total favourite. Halliday, who often goes stupidly long, gave both of those two a ten year drinking window only. The 08 should be perfect. The '09, which I bought heavily, including some magnums, is still very good so there is some hope there. If I bought one of these packs I would get into the '04 immediately ... Sorry to be a downer. I got some friends interested in this deal and then on reflection had to add a heavy warning that they might be flogging off some vintages that were on the way out.

Good to know, but hopefully not the case. I suspect they will still be in a reasonable state. Seppelt is too big a name to risk compromising with cruddy wines...but, we are in interesting times 🤷‍♂️

Was thinking the same, that Seppelt wouldn’t sell dud wines but who knows... I had quaffers that lasted way past their recommended drinking window and some that didn’t. At $16 a pop I’m willing to take a punt on this one.

Thanks for your thoughts Bill. When I posted this I was see sawing as to whether to take the risk. They were out of stock and so I phoned and they added another 30 cases online. I had seen some 10 year windows on the 2004. CM seems to think the 2006 will cellar well and so was hoping it will be ok and JH put 20 years on the 2008. I got to the point of pulling the trigger anyway at the price and "supposed" low quantities and taking the risk. As noted by others ill get into the 2004 and see how it is with some fingers crossed. Might need to invite some friends around for a vertical tasting night - Anyone in Wollongong 😀

I was tempted to try the vertical, but too slow like usual - looks like the 30 cases are all gone!

Wouldn't have thought Seppelt would flog bad wine either. They might be slightly on the decline but these will have been perfectly cellaring conditions and they are robust, high alcohol, tannic wines. Most Aussie shiraz of a decent standard under screwcap can withstand 15 years plus in the bottle in good cellaring conditions.

Well done. Despite my reservations about going in, I am slightly envious! Would be great to hear what people think when they've had a go. Breathe it well!

I have just finished off in the last 18 months a case of the 2000 Chalambar that I had forgotten about, just looking at some Vivino notes, and in 2017 when I rated it, it was drinking well, fruit quite faded but the secondary earthy notes shining.

Not sure what the drinking window was on that vintage, but perhaps an indicating that if stored well they go the distance.

I had it in cart and I got distracted to purchase them, went back in - it's gone! Wow that was quick.
Now it seems replaced with Mount Ida. But same price at $50 each.

Halliday, for what he's worth, thought the 2000 would go longer - he had it as drink by 2015. It is promising for these ones on offer now that it lasted 5 yrs longer than that...

That's not a great price for the mt ida. Nice wine tho. Some older ones of that would be very good now

Has anyone boomed on the Jaluka vertical and tried any of the older vinatges in this pack yet? The 2005, 07 or 08

Im intrigued by it but hesitatnt to boom on it just yet.

Im convinced these will still be interesting/approachable/eminently drinkable/nice to drink, but this is very very old Chardonnay. Would like to know how they are drinking if anyone's tried yet....
