Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Thanks rosehea, haven't subscribed to JH for a while now although I am somewhat puzzled by his score, the scores on Allegiance's site for this wine are all between 93-95 points but then it all depends on when they were awarded 🙂. It gets a pretty solid 3.7 stars from the punters on Vivino with the first three comments being: "Bold, heavy and rustic" "Big bold cab. Leather Dense dark fruit and fine tannin" tasted six months ago and this from a couple of years ago "Starting to hit its straps tannins and fruit blending well". Probably won't buy though because I've been stocking up a bit too much of late...

Just to add in to the Vintage Cellars talk, stopped by the Newtown (Sydney) store today and they still had a few decent offers

I picked up:
Wolf Blass platinum $83
Henriot champagne $49
Spinifex la maline $39
Seppelt Drumbourg Pinot Meunier $19
Howard Park Mt Barker Riesling $9

Decent offers on spirits available also

Couldn’t help myself stopping to check 1st choice on the way to work in Melbourne today. Gotta say people here did good job cleaning all the premium stuff. Only interesting thing I found was Grosset Polish Hill 2017 at $30.

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Just FYI, Halliday gives this 85 points and says:
"A light to medium-bodied cabernet that has passed its optimum time for consumption, but will hold on for a few years yet."

I'd agree with JH here. Split a case with some mates via the VM $12.50 deal a while ago - a very ordinary wine. Would've returned if I'd kept the case myself. Certainly not worth it at $20, considering the other options available around that price point.

Amazon moving into booze. Might be worth keeping an eye on...

So far it looks like the category has been set up under 'Shop By Department' but it is empty

I don't like Amazon. It's not as easy as eBay to return what you purchase. Base on the Amazon selling strategy, it only sells the popular item, and aim to get the minimum days of item stored in the warehouse. It may not cover a broader variety of wine.

I'm with you. It will be interesting to see what they do with wine given they have kind of failed to takeoff in Australia so far.

Would much rather buy direct or support a local retailer than put money into Jeff Bezos' pocket. I don't like the cut of his jib.
