Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Thanks @chonka for the Clarendon Hills & Raul Joffre Malbec.

Appreciate everyone's opinion and dedication to spreading the love on these forums. I'm not a great buyer myself but when it comes to the recommendations that are shared here I've found great value.

Many thanks for every members input!

We try to give back, I've got so much from this site :)

I received the Raul Joffre Premium Malbec 2011 today, so cracked a bottle as I was a little concerned about a 2011 vintage Malbec. My wine notes are very amateur but I'm happy with this wine (for $5.65) Its a big, verging on full-bodied Malbec, so no worries at all about the age, and 2011 seems to be quite a good vintage in Argentina. Slight alcoholic nose, really long legs so I'm thinking the advertised 14.5% is on the lenient side, but that's the style I prefer anyway. Definite oak influence [insert notes here] To my untrained palate, tannins are balanced and in place, finish is quite long

Edit: Would be interested to hear if anyone tried any of the Freeman & Lane range that was on clearance at DM too.

Thanks from me too. I should receive my $5.65 Malbec in a couple of days - sounds like a decent drop that is a bargain for the price. Looking forward to trying.

Has anyone tried the Known Pleasures shiraz in DM secret selection? https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_MYSTERY261/secret-selection-mclaren-vale-shiraz-2017
Scores 98 from JH

Yeah - I would also be interested to hear how to take advantage of these prices? I'm after the Hardys HRB Chard for $18.88

Any guidance @qaz?

I'm guessing they're only available for click and collect for people in those postcodes. Or people who are close enough to lie and then drive over.

Couldn't resist getting a case of the 2013 Clarendon Hills even though I am very well stocked with some superb wines (I am looking at you Rug:)) and after reading the Mattinson review for Halliday which is for the 2014 I was pushed over the edge:
It's an inky, full-bodied, muscular wine with blackcurrant, bay leaf, graphite and wood smoke flavours powering through the palate. It acts as though it's the last authority on cabernet sauvignon; every step along the way it feels in total command.
Can't wait to try it....

Anyone tried the Star Lane options? The Merlot or the Sangiovese and Nebb blend? @Dr Ralph did you get any?
I've had an older vintage ('12) of the merlot and rated it highly - a juicy (red fruit) full bodied wine with bright acid but not much tannin - not a fruit bomb though.

I have a few of the Sangiovese and Nebb blend coming with my order. DM also has the Cantare 2016 as secret which I didn't see before and looks interesting (94 Patrick Eckel). I have previously had the Star Lane Shiraz 2015 and Merlot 2014, I recall the Shiraz to be quite tannic needing more time, the Merlot quite nice with a bit of bite.

I did buy 2 of each from this list and collected them just today. Will be some time before I try any of them. Star lane are a quality producer. I'm expecting them to be good.

Thanks!

Do Cashrewards work if you are using a Dan Murphy's gift card?

Definitely. It's not Woolworths home delivery which now does not work if you use a WISH card.

not sure if i mention this before but james haliday is a group as "wine companion" since they started published that magazine(6-7 years ago?),as least 3 wine writer/reviewer tasted all those wines, i think they expanded to 5 or more , their wine score follows where the market goes as JH is the only well known wine viewer in asia , jeremy oliver is another one but not as much impact as JH. jeremy oliver has his own wine annual book in chinese too.

Has anyone used Parcel Collect successfully with Dan Murphy’s? They are using Endeavour for my delivery and they can’t deliver to my local post office.

Yes. Fully detailed in this thread. Read through recent posts. I describe clearly what you'll need to do to use parcel collect with Dan Murphy's. In short call them immediately. You may have already waited too long.

Thanks doc. When I called them today (after failed delivery), the guy said the parcel would not go back to them, but will be at endeavour depot. And also he didn’t acknowledge there was a way to specify Aus post by calling. Oh well will definitely try to call them next time right after ordering.
