Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Hey guys! In my perusing I discovered that winedirect.com.au are having a 20% off sale on all varietals of Cabernet today!

https://www.winedirect.com.au/20-off-cabernet/

They've got stuff like the 2013 Blue Pyrenees Richardson Cabernet Sauvignon and 2012 Glenlofty Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, both of which I'm a fan of. They've also got the Leconfield 2015 Cab Sauv that we all boomed on the week before last.... But it's $24 a bottle after the discount. Dammit that deal really was just incredible.

Anyway, have a good day!

Of the recent vintages we have tasted the 2006 has been the most difficult and the most variable. We have had one good bottle, but the majority of them have been disappointing, displaying a cloying sweetness and an overwhelming presence of stewed prunes. I hope you get lucky W&D!

Just discovered that I made a boo-boo DB and it's the 2005 I'm in possession of so hopefully the outlook will be more positive (that's twice I've slipped up lately vintage-wise ) Cellartracker devotees certainly seem to think highly of it!

That is excellent news. I reckon the '05 is a much safer bet. Let me know if you need me to pop around and do some quality control for you. ;)

That's excellent DB, we probably don't work too far from one another-Hunter Street versus CSIRO-but can't see myself popping the cork and giving it a crack under the watchful eye of the boss:)

Are Cracka and My Wine Guy the same company? "Elizabeth" and "Simon" both sent me identical emails about the Jasper Hill Shiraz, right down to their own personal tasting notes... Come on guys, at least put some effort in.

I had to call My Wine Guy a couple of years back when after 3 weeks my wine still hadn't arrived. I received it a couple of days later, with a cracker sticker on it! I just thought My Wine Guy had run out of stock and had to source from Cracka.

The cynic would suggest multiple organisations under the same umbrella is an interesting way to infer "competition" exists.

They used to be separate, then Cracka bought MWG, IIRC. The offerings don't always overlap, but a lot of the premium stuff is common.

I had ordered some Oakridge SV Willowlake Pinot from Cracka. They struggled to get stock to fill the order - but were very proactive in explaining the problem - and when the wine eventually was delivered it was in a My Wine Guy box.

Given how many wine different outlets Woolies and Coles own, I'm not too fussed if Cracka and MWG are from the same stable, particularly as MWG's website is pretty cool (and Crack's is pretty ordinary).

I think MWG was always an offshoot of Cracka, Simon Green from Cracka was given the job of starting up the offshoot after the demise of the My Wine Companion partnership.

Cracka also now own another e-tailer (Wine Growers Direct)) and fulfil the Wine section of mybottleshop.com.au

I think they are just targeting different demographics. You can see it in the differences in the style of the websites and their respective ranges. The cynic in you could have some fun naming the two different demographics :)

Interesting also how their emails all arrive within minutes of each other.

They send emails at the time of day that their thinking / research indicates you're most likely to make a buy in a hurry. There's quite a bit of science behind this stuff for some e-tailers...

Promo emails don't worry me (after all I signed up to them) but it was more the faux personal style...

Simon: "I have tried the wine last night, and it is breathtaking. Just something to behold; a wine that has only just begun its journey to greatness, with balance being the buzzword. The alcohol is perfectly balanced in 2013, meaning the wine is fragrant, powerful and impeccably put together; the red earth and artisanal winemaking coming to the fore. Its length is almost unstoppable and had me jumping out of my skin to go back and drink another bottle. It is that good"

Elizabeth: "I tried the wine Tuesday morning, and it is breathtaking. Just something to behold; a wine that has only just begun its journey to greatness, with balance being the buzzword. The alcohol is tempered in 2013, meaning the wine is powerful, rich and impeccably put together; the red earth and artisanal winemaking coming to the fore. Its length is almost unstoppable and had me jumping out of my skin to go back and drink another bottle. It is that good."

Wish I'd bought another case or two of the Leconfield, it really is a great wine. Should petition Cellarmasters for some more...

Thanks CE for the PM advising to grab some, very much appreciated :)

Elizabeth has a drinking problem!

I hadn't noticed the dodgy TN setup between the two, I unsubscribed from Cracka emails long ago. My last three attempts to buy from them ended in failure as they could not source the vintage advertised. Unlikely to ever buy from them again.
