Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

FWIW, Cracka and sister site MyWineGuy have had the 2010 Meshach up 3-4 times before at the same price. MWG sent an email about it being available again this morning.

Langton's broker offer 2002 Meshach $85 p/bottle for six pack ($170 at Dan's). Happy to split a case if anyone interested.

They should be able to do better than that. Got the same through their sister-site Winemarket for $65/bottle. Maybe it was during one of their regular 20% off deals. Either way, Langtons and Winemarket call centre is all merged now.

Wow they really put Dan's to shame with all the latest Meshach, Command and other premium wine sales.

The stuff that DM sells is probably straight from the winery. The WineMarket/Langtons/Grays stuff will usually be secondary market stuff (sometimes they do get museum releases). So the DM price reflects the cost of holding bottles for years that don't sell.

How their price match policy works? Will they match such low offers from WM or Langton's on same items?

DM are having another Cellar Release night on Thursday the 30th with various specials apparently. They don't seem to have publicised it very much, I only found out when in my local the other day.

Just found this in the My Events section of Dan Murphys website:

'Dan Murphy's Cellar Release Member Night

If you love aged wine, then the Dan Murphy's Cellar Release Member Night held next Thursday 30th March, is one event you won't want to miss. This exclusive member event will feature over 70 offers exclusively available on the night, plus tastings of some superb aged wines.
Tasting highlights include:

 • Grant Burge Meshach Shiraz 2009
 • Hardy's Oomoo Shiraz 2011
 • Wolf Blass Grey Label Shiraz 2010
These tastings are complimentary and there is no need to RSVP. If you love aged wine, or would like to find out more about cellaring wine, then we'd love to see you there.'

This doesn't seem like their annual cellar clearout event, rather their semi regular cellar release events, which are rarely publicised widely. Certainly not as likely to score massive discounts here compared to the cellar clearout events.

So the CM mystery wine was indeed the Mitolo.
I've just opened a bottle after a hard day at the track, and my late father's only piece of father/son advice is echoing through my head
"You get NOTHING for nothing - if a bargain seems to good to be true then it probably is too good to be true"
The colour is fine and the nose is pleasant but the wine tingles like sherbet on the tongue ...... No thank you!

Somebody please tell me that decanting or leaving it for an hour will fix this.....

Tingles like sherbet? I'd say you have some kind of wine fault then. Or is it just super high acid you're noticing?

Here's golden rule for wine. If it is currently unbalanced or a rubbish wine, no amount of cellaring or decanting is going to make it any better.

I think that if you get a tart taste in your wine glass someone put unripened grapes into the crush. Have never tried to fix this and the drain may save your taste buds.

OK, so the 'tingle' has ameliorated somewhat with time in the glass but a $75 wine??? Don't think so.
I'll take the Petaluma Coonawarra any day. Lucky I brought one to Melbourne even though that was for tomorrow night after Ricciardo triumphs over Hamilton.

Off to Southbank now (Sorry Mods, OT I know) I'll review your kind replies later
