Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Hey wozza if your out there!
As a sucker for aged Cabernet, Jd Cellars have Mitchell Sevenhill Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 for under $30-
With hindsight, do you think this is an average Cabernet with decent age or something of quality that has found its happy place?
Cheers in advance

Good question, @Birdyzone.

Happy to have tried one. It was an auction punt on Langtons. It's a satisfying wine if you forgive and look past the imbalances and focus just on its clear qualities.

Here's my review if that helps: Wozza on Vivino

With hindsight, I would say an average Cab with some decent age that just falls short of something of quality (although there are good signs of quality there). Hence the Wozza 3.7/5.0. I would not buy a 6 pack. But I would definitely be happy to try another bottle.

Hope that helps (and thanks @Steady for the prompt - it has been a while my dear friend)

Cheers, Wozza

Hi @Wozza and @Steady

Thanks very much for the feedback, guidance and detailed review.
I suspected a winery the size of Mitchell wouldn’t keep a vintage that long unless there was something a little funky about it as a young wine. But occasionally it works and a swan is formed. Yes 6 was a stretch for me without trying, hence chasing you down as the most trusted recent reviewer
I will save my powder for another day.
Cheers Birdyzone

Are they that good? I have held off thus far

Hi Steady,
Online research I've done suggests this is a decent punt at $11 a bottle.
I have virtually no straight Merlot at the moment so that clinched it for me.
I'm also running drastically low on red cooking wine so all bases are covered.

EDIT: Cooking wine levels are worse than first thought. Just one solo bottle of Mitolo Cantiniere left.
