Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Has anyone picked up any bargains from GraysOnline ? I am never certain of the quality and suspect some wineries use them to dump their rubbish

Has anyone picked up any bargains from GraysOnline ?

Yes many times.

EG:

Pirramimma 'White Label' Petit Verdot 2011 (6 x 750mL), McLaren Vale, SA, for around $7 a bottle with delivery.

Pirramimma `White Label` Tannat 2010 (12 x 750mL), McLaren Vale, SA, for around $6 a bottle with delivery.

This pack for around $120 with delivery:

Shiraz / Syrah Mixed Vintage Auction | GraysOnline Australia

You have to be very patient though. I've seen the same items go for between 50 to 80% more than I've paid only one day before or after.

And, yes, there is a lot of cheap rubbish available as well that often goes for only $1 or $2 a bottle.

I'm going to put Dr Ralph's reported success to the test at my local store. If they say 'no', they say 'no'.

You can't use the self check out for this, so pick the dopiest looking checkout operator that you can.

I've bought about 700 bottles of pirramimma over the last 18 months. Got many absolute bargains early on, not.so.easy now. My wife said the toll delivery driver thought she had a drinking problem when she was getting 3+ cases a week at times. I accidentally got some white label shiraz Viognier last week. I averaged about $10 per bottle delivered for their white label range shiraz . I got best results for.auctions ending at lunch rather than midnight.

I certainly have in the past, mainly to buy NZ whites which are well regarded in NZ but not well known here. Have had huge bargains in the past but havent bought for a couple of years.

Your point is entirely valid, but hardly the first place that wineries use to sell stuff they are having trouble moving, everyone except top end wineshops sell "massive bargains" etc. If you do buy off Grays you do need to do your own independant research.

Also when you add the buyer's premium and the outrageous freight charge, it can add about $5 per bottle to your bid.

Probably more - but the prices I quoted above included all of that.

Crackawines has the 2011 St Hallett Blackwell shiraz for $19.99/bottle in a case of six: https://www.crackawines.com.au/product/2011-94-point-cellar-release-barossa-shiraz

If you register for the AMEX offer, you can also knock another $20 off. If you're a new member and get someone else to refer you, you also get a further $25 off.

After all of that, it works out to be less than $14 a bottle. I picked up a case myself.

I haven't had the 2011 and from all accounts it's not nearly as good but surely at less than $14 a bottle you can't go wrong? Has anyone tried this?

Saw this deal posted over on OzBargain, mixed dozen from Naked Wines for new members $50 delivered:

Has anyone had any experience with Naked Wines? The winemakers seem interesting and the concept is different. I figured for $50/doz at worst I'd have a dozen wines for cooking with so I don't end up using any Amelia Park in casseroles. :)

Naked wines have been average in my experience. For $50 a case... maybe ok as the third bottle of the night!

Can anyone refer me to crackawines for the $25 promo code?

There's another post now...~$28 for 13 bottles (16 if you join their angel waiting list or whatever that is) can't go wrong for $1.75 a bottle!

Dan's is back with their mystery mixed pack with a chance to win a 2010 Grange. (or the cheaper pack at $99 with a chance for some Dom!)

I suppose one could order a case and hope for the best. If there's no Grange, refund them.
