Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

With BWS Tahmoor/Bargo/Rosemeadow, do they put the clearance items on a different table or mixed together with everything else and most importantly, do they post the marked down prices on the shelf? Thanks.

Impressed Dr Ralph...just can't imagine how you source these bargains.

The answer is simple...shoe leather!

And working around Sydney at different courts puts me in many different places throughout a given week.

Can't comment on Tahmoor or Bargo but at Rosemeadow today items were in their regular place but with large yellow discount signs in place beside them.

BWS Oran Park and Rosemeadow has identical fortified items for sale over the past 2 weeks. The Filsell was new today at Rosemeadow.

Do you employers know how you spend your days...apart from posting on AFF? ;)

There are some people who pay me sometimes large amounts of money to do things on their behalf, but I don't call them my employer.

No bargain gems at any of the BWS stores I've visited recently. :-(

Don't give up. Items are often store specific. I'd get a hit for every 5 stores that I tried.

Meanwhile got a couple of De Bortoli Old Boys 21yo Tawny for $15 each and a Morris Tokay for $7.50 last night at BWS Tahmoor. There's quite a few more bottles of tokay there, but the 21yo was hard to leave sitting there...

I got the De Bortoli for the same price last week at Oran Park. It was also available at Rosemeadow today.

The Morris Tokay was $10 at both Oran Park and Rosemeadow within the last week. Plenty of stock.

I was edumacated by one of the store manager down here in sunny Canberra to look for a diagonal strike on the white label, that signal the wine being a deleted a line then a yellow sticker should go over that label. Usually.

Some stores don't bother doing that though.

Bargo/Tahmoor also have their clearance dispersed among normal stock. I've seen the clearance items on their own table at Macarthur Square and at Bowral. In the majority of cases the marked down price is ticketed, but as you mentioned in another post another giveaway is the diagonal line through the white ticket (though that is not always a guaranteed indicator of a reduction).

All gone, I took the last 6. Thanks the good Dr :)

Wishing I had bought more now. Haven't seen the scores for 2013 but previous vintages are quite reasonable and seem to cellar for quite some time. This is the list from Ray Jordan:

2012 94 2032-2042
2011 92 2019-2023
2010 93 2022-2030
2009 88 2014-2017
2008 94 2020-2028
2007 93 2015-2019+
2006 88 2011-2014+
2005 90 2010-2013
2004 94 2012-2016+
2003 94 2011-2015+

Just noticed Dan's St Hallett Blackwell 2013 selling for $30.35 (with cash rewards 8% $27.92) just last week is now $34.20. Still more expensive even with the supposed 12% cashrewards. Not a good deal all round. But I'm wondering what other wines have suddenly gone up due to the increased cash rewards %.

Agreed,

The Norfolk Rise 2010 Merlot is a fine drop at $9 a bottle, its back up on VM for this price again now.

Yes, I have the Merlot too, and the 2014 Shiraz, like them very well for the price. And, based on that, in fact, call me a sucker, but what the hell, just ordered another case of the 2015. Got a good feeling about this one.

Drinking a wine tonight that I cannot recall buying. It is pretty decent and has a touch of GB Filsell about it, an earthy taste.
It is a McLaren Vale Shiraz, unsure if the Vineyard is Penny's Hill or Skeleton Key. Has a Red Dot above the label. Worth grabbing if you see it somewhere.

You can tell I am organised...
