Any recommendations of a high quality Dans Cellar Release red <$40-60 for drinking now? Or if anyone knows one on another site (I've had limited joy searching for aged wines on my other usual spots) please call out!

I have been looking at a few options including Wynns Black Label 2008 (Wynns has always been at worst pretty solid for me), Bin 128 2009, St Hugo 2010, Cape Mentelle Cab Sauv 2009

There are also a couple of French and Italian options around, though a bit trickier to find in the search function.

Wynns Black label 2008 or 2009 have recently been available in the $30-35 range. I'm not a fan of cab sauv and I really enjoyed it.

I have been stocking up on the aged stuff too, J-P.

My best joy has come through Langtons and getting set up with a broker. They'll happily give you 30 minutes of their time to build a profile of what you like and what your budget is. I have had some absolute crackers from them since joining up. And have just put in a few more orders this week. Their delivery times aren't as quick as others.

I have also had some great aged wines from Cellar Link. They have a very impressive climate controlled warehouse in Sydney and have a lot of investor and private collector holdings, with an online Marketplace where the aged stuff is sold. If you are in Sydney, they often have some wines open to try before you buy. Their service is good too. And if you are lucky, they host some amazing wine tasting evenings and dinners at their fancy tasting and dining rooms.

I have also had some good wines through Grays Online, but I am not a huge fan of the auctions. But that's just me wanting to spend time with the family and wife rather than mucking around with multiple auctions.

I hear Summer Hill Wine Shop is also a great place to get aged wines, although I haven't bitten the bullet and ordered through them yet. And don't forget going direct to the wineries. I have picked up some excellent wines direct.

Vino mof_ occasionally have some older wines, but these are the exception to their staple diet of young (often age-worthy) high scoring, well priced Aussie wines.

I have tended to stay clear of Dan's (mainly because of pricing and offering), eBay and Gumtree (the latter two because of no guaranteed providence).

AnonymousCoward also likes to buy the aged stuff, and he'll no doubt have some excellent recommendations for you too.

AND ! - I ought to add: watch this thread. AFFers are great at posting the latest and greatest deals. Some are for the aged stuff, and if it is, it's likely to be posted to this thread.

Happy hunting ...

Petersham Liquor Mart (Petersham Liquor Mart Australia) has an amazing collection of back vintages down the back of their store (assuming you're in Sydney, you can have a browse). If you do a search on their site, for say, St Henri, you'll get an idea of what I mean. Whether the prices are good value, I have no idea, but for a single-bottle buy I guess you might be out $10-20, but as a positive, they have the stock right there.

Thanks Wozza, fantastic reply and lots of things to keep me busy! Unfortunately I'm not in NSW so I'm checking out the online ones, but some real good leads!

Any opinions on the below Dan's deal. Both price and quality of the wines??

https://www.danmurphys.com.au/produ...id=Offer_20162001_Wednesday_21977&rid=3176465

As luck would have it, I was down there last weekend (those cheap J fares to Perth really paid off!) and visited a stack of my favourite producers - Xanadu and Evans & Tate included.

I actually tasted both of these wines (and brought back the Xanadu with me, amongst others)... I'm not the biggest fan of the Redbrook, but the the Xanadu was excellent and, though highly quaffable right now, will in my view only get better with another 18-30 months in the cellar. The server at Evans & Tate did suggest the Redbrook was worth drinking now, but I suspect it might be worth another year before you crack it open (unless I just had the misfortune of tasting a slightly tired wine).

Any lower and I'd be ordering multiple cases of it, but the price is still pretty good value at $140 (and it's still available), so I'd definitely recommend it.

Seems like a good deal to me - $50/bottle:

1 x Old Vine Company Shiraz 2004,
1 x Clarendon Hills Liandra Shiraz 2006,
1 x R Wines The Wine Shiraz 2005,
1 x Katnook Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon 2006,
1 x Balnaves of Coonawarra The Tally Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2005,
1 x Grant Burge Shadrach Cabernet Sauvignon 2006.

Another Coffs member - great to see. Has anyone tried the heavily discounted Artan Padthaway Chardonnay 2013 from Winemarket?

Had this as part of the WM 12 pack of chardonnay. Its a smooth easy drinking white, lightish on nose and flavour, also a little sweet. Decent quaffer when you consider the price with discounts.

Thanks jabba, I noticed a comment about the sweetness on the WM site which had me concerned.

A good Penfold's/Vintec deal on offer at Dan's at the moment:

https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_B999999000396/penfolds-vintec-bundle

(Many thanks to dan_1337 over at Ozbargain for spotting this)

Trying to decide if this is worth it... been in the market for a new cabinet since mine are full and the vintec penfolds deals always seem to be the best bang for your buck. Was planning on holding out to see if they did the 120 bottle fridges again this year.

Anyone going to jump on this? Not sure if I see the value in those wines (even with the discount ending up being something like 40%).

These are great quality wines. It's a good deal if you have use for the 'small' fridge.

Brown Brothers currently have free freight for orders over $150 using the code NEWLOOK2016. They have some great packs available.

Agree with Dr Ralph - It's reasonable value if you are in the market for a small fridge and some Penfolds.

I apply a bit of a discount to Penfolds wines, but I still think you are getting the fridge for a good price in that bundle.

FWIW, the 2012 Bin 28 is actually one of the better value Penfolds wines IMHO.

A bit annoyed with Dan Murphy...ordered a 2009 Red but received a 2010....rang to complain and they said there is a small disclaimer (which I can now see) on the website that they may subsitute the vintage depending on stocks...can take to nearest Dan Murphy store for a refund if not happy...defeats the purpose of ordering online so you don't have to go to store!

Yep, pet hate of some people on here (myself included) and why I choose to avoid Dan's when I can. It's very, very common and I believe deceptive advertising. Unfortunately most online wine retailers have that clause tucked away.

Bit strange to hear about it for a 2009 wine though - it's more likely on 'current' vintages. Their "cellar release" range should always be the year mentioned.

The disclaimer is very clear and has always been part of their policy.
