Just going through the passport renewal process.

Slightly off my main purpose, I notice that people whom have had their passports damaged in the bushfires, floods, Brisbane storms etc can have their passports replaced free of charge in the year after the natural disaster.

For example:

DFAT said:
PASSPORTS DAMAGED IN QUEENSLAND STORMS: The Australian Passport Office is replacing free of charge until 17 November 2009 current Australian passports damaged or destroyed as a result of storms in South-East Queensland. Eligible applicants should contact the Australian Passport Information Service (APIS) on 131 232 for further information.
