I notice that QF566 left Perth for Sydney tonight 48 minutes late, at 17.03

Won't this miss curfew?

It only has to land by 2300, and the normal schedule takes into account taxi-times and so on.

I am on this same flight in June (after the Swans beat the Weagles) so I am thinking the same way you are.

Nope. Landed at 22:57.

If it landed at 22:57 ( rather than arrived at gate) then I would say that it was quite fine at 3 mins before curfew :)

Either way it made it :)

I doubt the captain would have left if there was an expectation of being after the curfew.

... just tweak the throttles a little and burn another tonne or so of fuel. ;)

Sounds like they tweaked it just the right amount. Cruise as long as possible in the jetstream, delay TOD as long as possible and make a quick decent on as straight an approach as possible. They almost had time for a quick circuit over the harbour before curfew  .

yes, I jest said "as straight an approach as possible". In fact I added the "as possible" part after noting it was SYD :p
