Try the screens on the A330 on economy need a magnifying glass to watch anything. Very poor for international service
I wouldn't go quite that far.

They certainly need something more modern i.e. Panasonic refit but I would rather them than mainscreen!

I wont argue with that. have a friend flying UA next week in Y and he was shocked when I told him no personal IFE :D

Hope it is not a long haul flight..
In Y & no IFE & on UA would be a terrible combination, last I was in that position was in the 1980s', I was in my teens so couldn't even enjoy a drink..
At least the new walkman entertained me for the pacific route.. ;)

Melbourne to San Fran :D

I have recomended he loads up his I Pad

He didnt believe me at first but after some research here he accepted his fate with a horrified look LOL

I really like the 747 refurbished economy, as it's the same, more spacious seats as the A380, along with the bigger and better IFE... I'm probably undecided on preference between the older 747 fit-out and the A330. Both pretty uncomfortable (as a bigger bloke) I think, and with the smaller, older IFE screens.
I haven't been on an QF A380 for a while but the IFE on the refurbished 747s has gone backwards. The control is now fixed into the side of the seat and IFE is touch screen and games used with controls such as Tetris have disappeared. :(

John, I was on a refurbed 747 two days ago. In J, you can most certainly detach the remote from the side of the seat. Can't speak for W or Y.

If you look at the quality of hard product on QFs services to SIN and HKG it really is quite poor yet priced as expensive as its much better equipped competitors (SQ and CX).

It's not too hard to avoid the A330s and get 380/747 to HKG and 747 to SIN - you just might have to do a connecting domestic flight first.

For SIN there is the 744 from SYD and BNE, HKG gets the 744 and A380 from SYD. So if you're not in SYD and want to go to HKG, CX is better, likewise for MEL/PER going to SIN v.v. SQ.

I must check again today what the remote like in economy.

Something tells me though I will be sleeping for most of the flight to SIN.

I was on a refurebed 747 SIN-SYD recently in Y and can confirm there is no detachable phone/IFE remote in the seat! You have to control the IFE by touching the screen (which is grat for those in front). Other than this it is the same excellent seat as the A380 including the foot net which i really like, but don't understand why they removed the remote which also included the phone and game console/qwerty keyboard for seat chat etc, very annoying!

I thought so. Extremely annoying.

Just had a look at the website properly - Manila J return for $2390 is pretty good value! Great way to position for CX status runs.

Great way to position for CX status runs.

Any specific suggestions of status runs out of MNL ?
I'd keen to try a few since in the region a fair bit.
Wanna make a run at WP in the next year or so before I book a possible OW 280k.
