Ok thanks. But how will I know the seat map of the aircraft flying that route on the day in question BEFORE i make a booking ?
I thought when you click on a flight in the booking process it just tells you which general aircraft it is e.g., 747-400 which is clickable then it takes you to another window and you see four different configs on it ?

Thanks
A subscription (or trial) to Expert Flyer or KVS can help (or call and ask perhaps).

As indiacted the config can change at late notice in any case (although unlikely for DFW flights as they need the ER's for that route and all have MkII).

The upgrades were only complete by December ?

Qantas completes Boeing 747 upgrade to A380-grade seats - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller\

edit: article says 9 of 18....

Wonder if there's any plans to upgrade the rest ?

I hope so... I copped an old 744 on QF6 from SIN-SYD earlier in the week... I was in Y. Quite unpleasant after having avoided them so long, but thankfully a reasonably light load and I ended up with an empty row of 3 near the front.

That is an interesting observation.

I quite like the Qantas 747's in economy (refurbished or not). I would much rather a 747 than an A330 but that is personal preference. It will be a sad day when the 747's are retired.

I have a couple of flight to/from SIN coming up in the next couple of weeks.

I really like the 747 refurbished economy, as it's the same, more spacious seats as the A380, along with the bigger and better IFE... I'm probably undecided on preference between the older 747 fit-out and the A330. Both pretty uncomfortable (as a bigger bloke) I think, and with the smaller, older IFE screens.

Yeh those screens on the 747 are a joke. You can't even really watch a movie and enjoy it.

Try the screens on the A330 on economy need a magnifying glass to watch anything. Very poor for international service

Oooops I actually meant A330 (which is the same on the non-refurb anyway). So yeh it's pathetic even in J so wouldn't expect much in Y.

If you look at the quality of hard product on QFs services to SIN and HKG it really is quite poor yet priced as expensive as its much better equipped competitors (SQ and CX).

747 is noisier in cabin than A380 no?
