mmm that's what I thought but they do have a nice itinerary but reading about the ships doesn't enthuse me

Some people love the suite class “ship within a ship”, but they certainly have had a lot of Covid-19 aboard, Never enticed me, either.

My Coral Expeditions voyage from Cairns to Broome on January 19 was cancelled yesterday. NT won’t allow any land contact. Usually the zodiacs or Xpedition boats would land passengers on remote beaches to explore flora and fauna, usually nowhere where people live, but that’s NT’s ruling. The ship might have had to refuel in Darwin? Disappointing, but a full refund is coming.

I have been following this for a while , all quite amazing and sad.
Only in america comes to mind…..

Royal Caribbean has assembled a fleet of cruise ships to house their crew members who test positive for COVID-19 and to provide medical treatment to those who are symptomatic. Two of the other ships, the Vision of the Seas and the Rhapsody of the Seas, are currently at maximum capacity with over 1,500 infected crew members on each ship. The majority of the crew members are symptomatic

Mixed bag of cruise experiences in the era of omicron, ranging from disappointment at missed ports to enjoyment of being the only pax left on the ship.

I've been following Viking trips on Facebook. Some enjoy the 50% passenger load. They have to do the saliva test every day, have a negative PCR prior to embarkation which allows them access to their cabin, then another test before they can leave their cabin. The part that I find most disturbing though is not that passengers can do their isolation if positive, in your cabin, but you will be offloaded at the very next Port. Some cruises currently in Sth America they have been put into student hostels, very little English spoken, no info on what happens next, and subject obviously to that country's isolation requirements. And very limited Viking interaction for help. There's one awful tale on there. Many ports not allowing access, and in one case Viking had to charter a plane to get disembarking passengers off as the port refused entry.

I see that article references Viking but I think the story I read was after this cruise. It's current. No lessons learnt.

We are booked on Passage to India which involves multiple ports through Israel, Jordan, and the Middle East. A fabulous cruise given we had to cancel Egypt last December (in the end we could have gone on it bar Israel) but seriously thinking we will now transfer it to May 2023 (they only run it once a year).

I'm a fan of Dream cruises. While it was good to read they will continue for now, it's obviously not a good situation to be in.

Will it be a case of dominoes? So many different lines are owned by the one Corporation.
Many of us had thought booking a cruise in 2023 was a safe option. This puts that notion in jeopardy. If Crystal does crash, there will be no refunds of deposits either, or the full fare paid for those due to sail soon. It will take a company or conglomerate with lots of money to take over even one of the brands.

Viking requires US citizens to pay upfront, as soon as booked or 14 months out. And they aren't cheap cruises. It's only 3 months for Aus and UK bookings. But given some have vouchers extending two years now, for several cruises, it may well be if Viking fails (they are privately owned) then most will lose tens of thousands of dollars.

Hi Jinks on the high seas. The Crystal Saga gets interesting.

Meanwhile Genting is still selling cruises.

It has been interesting following the saga from the viewpoint of someone onboard Crystal via Cruise Critic. There are a lot of people who have fully paid for cruises late this month as well as February through to April. As unsecured creditors, I wonder if they will receive any money back? It might depend if that money is being held in a trust account.
