Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

yes and stick them on rottnest but who will pay for their food?
Its like a boat having yellow fever on board and raising the flag. 200 years ago they wernt allowed off. Just larger scale.

I don't understand the problem, many ports have told cruise ships to piss off. Just make sure they have fuel and food and off they go. They make their own water.

I meant the crews of the 4 ships in Australia that have confirmed pax cases of covid19. We have (as far as I know) seen no figures about the crew rate of infection or how many crew have disembarked.
We had a friend on a cruise which had to be terminated in Sydney because of port closures. The crew stayed on board initially. Most were then let off to go directly to the airport for a charter flight out.One hundred stayed on board to sail the ship back to Europe. But this was Silversea.

No idea what Princess did.

The reality is that this number of people will blow out the resources of WA to cope. Meaning that their own citizens, who are self isolating etc etc and now financially suffering because of our cutbacks, are at huge risk for a group of people who decided their holiday was more important. It's harsh but true.

They used to set it on fire.

Not quite so true. It's on a world cruise out of Europe which started prior to this coronavirus spreading and becoming an issue.

Cant be Magnifica as seascanner has that up near Cairns. Given that number of potential infections, this ship, whatever it is, must have left a trail of infections across Australia and maybe NZ.

Many world cruises have multiple sectors though and not many do the full trip.

It is MSC Magnifica

It's obviously made a major deviation to the original itinerary. It was never meant to visit Fremantle.

Was it allowed to berth in Melbourne on 19th?

That would be pretty obvious given that they have been banned from pacific islands for the last couple of weeks.

Only obvious if you've watched this ship on the cruise. Did it go to NZ, Hobart, Sydney?

And did it go to Melbourne a couple of days ago? And weren't the Pacific Islands very wise. Thank God they refused it.

TBH, I haven't watched any cruise itineraries at all, only actions taken on arrival as they abandon their itineraries (and unsubscribing from the half dozen emails being received every day exhorting me to sign up for a cruise).

I was basing the comment on the fact most cruise ships had dramatically altered their itineraries and the constant news of them being banned from docking all over the Pacific and Asia since beginning March. That caused me to assume without bothering to check that no cruise ship would be following their advertised itinerary. Admittedly some may have, but not many.

I enjoy cruising, have several under my belt, and have 2 prepaid deposits for future cruises but have no intention of stepping aboard any cruise ship before June 2021 at the earliest regardless of any price offers.

Apparently it was refused berth in Hobart. I suspect they just got off the boat in Sydney with past history there.......

The Magnifica did indeed visit Tasmania but it was the Captain who wouldn't let the guests off in case they picked up the virus from one of Tassies 5 cases at the time.

Well there's an unexpected twist!

Some dispute as to whether there is any COVID19 infections on board the Magnifica. Interesting times...

The conduct of the mass market cruise lines Internationally is excretable and there needs to be a mass excision of executive positions.
Au government has been inexplicably soft on entry at airports and ship ports such that most of our infection is imported.
We would likely be one of the lower infection countries if we had acted more decisively sooner.. resulting in less draconian curve modulation and less economic damage.
Someone stuffed up.

Interesting where the ship got it.
Left Europe in Jan. Most of Feb in South America, March in NZ/ Aus.
