Costco - Products, Prices and Deals

+1. Hugely disappointing, as Costco did not impose a surcharge on Amex either :(

Costco failed to renegotiate their merchant deal with Amex, its a huge blow to Amex as others have said Costco used to issue co-brand Amex's and enforce only Amex as the payment method in the states.

I'll be complaining about this as we spend significant amounts at Costco and this will put a big dent in our points earning.

I've just renewed my Costco membership, think I'll go and get the membership refunded as a result of Costco dropping Amex.

I just wish Costco would open two or three stores in Perth. They will be hugely popular when they finally come.
We have to get used to Amex getting dumped by Costco but for us it is no big deal. American Express could not beat the other credit card guys in a bidding process last year and the change is coming.

I can't really see what the big deal is about Costco dropping Amex. It just means that instead of getting one or one and a half points a dollar, one now only gets half a point a dollar using another card.

The minuscule loss of points on any purchase shouldn't really offset the significant savings a large family can typically make at Costco on the typical multi-pack purchases.

My main problem with Costco is that after the initial splurge on first joining, there really isn't much left to buy there for a family of two who have already bought most everything for their house. Yes, it was very handy for my wife who bought six pairs of pyjamas there that she had been looking around for in lots of stores for ages. But last time we went back to Costco, all we bought was a gardening book for my wife. I'm not sure if I'll be renewing my membership next year.
Regards,
Renato

I will use the QCUcc once that change occurs as it is a point a dollar as a minimum on everything.

Looks like we'll be doing a nappy stock up or two before the change comes in...

We typically spend $200-$300 a visit, so long term there will be a noticeable drop in cc earned points.

Don't you have Prestige cove? It has previously earned 1.33 KF pts/$1 compared AMEX at 1.5 so was neglibile.

Clearly from posts it is unfortunately going to negatively impact some AFF members.

I use Citi Prestige as an office card CE. Obviously if I could get chocolate coated macadamias at Costco in Australia for our office it would go on that card. Mixing things up messes with our business accounting.
I might start using an ANZ Black Amex for the rest of the free year now that ATO has ended for that set of credit cards.

I went to get diesel at Costco yesterday and ............. I was flabbergasted ................ Jerry I was full of both flabber and gaster ............... Costco were closed for public holiday. I went and bought diesel down the road at +10c/ltr at the DFO outlet at Moorabbin Airport and you just could not get a car park in DFO for love nor money - parking rage in full cry in DFO outlet car park - I am still scratching my head with the Costco decision to close.

Opening hours so you don't get caught out again.

Yes I have that now Tommy - why didn't you tell me yesterday before I went there?

Maybe we need a "I'm heading to Costco" thread, similar to the "I'm in the lounge" threads? Plus we'll know when the Dr.rons are there and frisky after being on the drink.

Just wish they sold alcohol in SA.
Moorabbin has been open 5mths now - only alcohol I have seen cheaper than you can cop at Dan's was Baileys 1ltr @$28 but that lasted like a day or so. Their Margarita mix is cheap when on special but few bargains otherwise - of course I do not see them all every day.

Thanks for that - reassuring then. Dans it stays then.
I use premium petrol in the car - it runs very quietly. Filled up at Costco a couple of weeks ago and I could tell the difference - much rougher. Anyone else notice this?
