Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

I imagine they would be very comfortable to wear.

Whoops sorry attached the wrong quote - I meant to attach the original one from Mrs.dr.ron

Love your fabrics.

I have just spent some time making masks too. So much for my proper work. It seemed like a good idea to sort out a good pattern and fit. I am in WA so not currently needed but it doubless will be sometime soon. I wanted to have some ready for family who don't sew.

I have a load of fabric of all sorts so have started out with all the suitable cotton and poly cotton scraps to see how they go. Made 8 so far plus a couple of not so good fits getting it right. The shape is similar to yours which seems a comfortable shape to wear.

I am using the info from the Victorian health website about fabric so 3 layer and the middle one is from the 'green' bag type fabric. I find that is quite good as it also holds it away from the nose nicely. I have sewn in a stainless steel wire for the nose fit. Tried a few different bits but couldn't get a nice tight fit. I have tested with my glasses on and I can get it so they don't fog up.

Its kind of fun!

Some very creative masks about, I am going to buy myself a few to wear for best as a P3 respirator is not zactly a fashion statement….

@Himeno was wondering whether you had anything to share re panic buying. A few people looked like they were stocking up on Brisbane today.

Just reporting in that my local Coles in Melbourne south west (and associated food shops) were twice as busy this morning. I always shop early on Sundays to avoid queues etc. Lots of people doing bulk shopping (e.g. 10 x 500g mince, large packs of toilet paper). Just to get in the mood I bought an extra bar of chocolate and some dried chickpeas...

OMG! I just got back from my once-a-week-early-Sunday-shop and just reported that it was twice as busy!!

Is Melbourne Coles and Woolies still doing home delivery? Why go if you can home deliver?

My Woolies has half price chorizo again so I bought 2kgs again 😊

Do be careful with that amount of saturated animal fat...:( there is increasing evidence of co-morbidity of Covid and people not staying ‘in shape’...

it’s ironic the virus literally has people trapped in houses, fattening them up to then infect them:oops:

Good thing I'm already fat and if you check out the What I Ate Today thread, yesterday was home made Lasagna and today it's fried chicken... But we do fast Mon and Tues and have salads and veggies. I also use the chorizos in a bean and veggie soup.

Ive actually lost weight as I don't buy lunch every day (WFH) and stopped drinking classic coke about 3 months ago .

For the thread, did notice yellow capsicum was hard to buy last week.

Congratulations on quitting soft drinks, eliminating unhelpful foods one step at a time from your diet will be a more sustainable change in the long term :)

At least twice as busy. There are long queues, 10-15 people each, and more people were going in as I came out. I hope 'Karen' and her male equivalent aren't going shopping today. I don't think anybody would put up with their antics at the moment.

When the hard lock-down is announced, I'm ready to stay home for a month or so. I have my own small back yard and can see the driveway so I know when it's safe to go out the front.

One can only wonder, in a few months time, when all the long-put-off medical issues start to have more impact in other health areas. And I feel so sorry for young parents with new babies who in the best of times 😩 can feel isolated.
Hopefully this doesnt start any panic buying in SA because we can be rather sheeplish down here.

H O A R D E R !

Going for the most important essentials! ;)

It will be interesting to hear exactly what is happening with abbatoirs - that is an area that could see a real shortage develop as there's no real alternative available (for killing & processing). Nothing wrong with less red meats bing consumed (for most) just the inevitable surge clearing out the shleves & prospectively remaining low supply for an extended period.

Similarly with the reported lack of 'safe' pickers for the hand picked crops. Although the early reports (April or so) about issues with picking crops in Qld did not seem to massively impact supply. True some shops & chains (Coles & WW for example) did take advantage of the media reports to hold prices up on a number of F&V lines - broccoli for example.

The way things are going, you might need to apply for a visa soon ;)

Those have been needed in Sydney for decades.

People living north of the harbour bridge require their passports when they head east or south & vice-versa. So typically people north will stay on the north on weekends & vice-versa. We're not as cosmopolitan as Melbourne.

Why would you buy any foreign produced TP when there is Australian made product available...

Suspect WW will struggle to move all that....
Seems roughly 20% of residential toilet paper is ACTUALLY made in China. Most gets packed in Australia & not labelled made in China but product of Australia.

A bit like the Chinese frozen vegetables sent to NZ by container, packed into the plastic bags in NZ & sent to Australia labelled 'Product of NZ'.

We sure have great labelling & consumer protection, NOT.

No sign of panic buying at work.
Victoria on the other hand...

They put product limits on in Vic when the Melbourne postcode lockdowns started, then put limits on paper towel and toilet paper nation wide.
Those limits were removed soon after, only to be put back on the next day in VIC when the full Melbourne Metro lockdown started.
The limits were again all gone by last week. Then this morning with many people in Melbourne expecting a harder lockdown announcement later in the day. They all head out to the shops, where there aren't any limits in place.

They had the limits back in place, more then at the start of the Melbourne Metro lockdown and closer to the peak of the March/April limits, by 2pm.
