I was in Ikea store in Sydney weekend before last and it was well stocked . But i ordered my items online when I got home (went to store to see in person but didnt have a access to a vehicle big enough to take home) , and the online store kept saying Adeliade was out of stock for every item I looked at. 5 week wait for delivery of my things - starting to think I shoudl ahve hired a go get van.

Coles has the added problem in that the Laverton distribution centre in Melbourne has been offline a bit...
It isn't closed, it is in reduced operation as there are 6 confirmed cases among staff, which has meant that other staff are in isolation.

Woolworths Balmain has 50 staff, of 132, in isolation after a staff member returned from Melbourne hotel quarantine and returned a low postive after working 2 shifts. They had been cleared before leaving Melbourne (they were tested postive on day 4 of the quarantine). NSW Health doesn't think they were contagious, but are treating it as though it is.

Coles 2km from me earlier today

Prepacked dairy shelves e.g. yogurt, cream, cheese, prepacked meats (ham etc), 90% empty today.

Fresh vege's scarce, very slim pickings.

The non-packed deli area where you get served, weighed by the kilo, seemed fully supplied

The same toilet paper pack we bought for $3.75 a week or so ago is now on sale for $9.

Toilet Paper overflowing the the TO aisle.

Extra packs stacked in front, plus extra pallets on the floor at the end. I think that they wanted to make it clear that there is ample so that people will stop buying extra TP

Why would you buy any foreign produced TP when there is Australian made product available...

Suspect WW will struggle to move all that....

I suspect WOW bought the Chinese TP as an extra buffer when the last panic buying bout was on, and with the panic buying this week understood that people were buying anything and so used it as an opportunity to unload it at a good margin as Chinese products are on the nose with consumers.

Vinomofo is the best wine deals site on the planet. Good wines, real people and epic deals, without all the bowties and bs.

Once you start examining labels you realise how terrible our food labelling laws are here. I think there
s already been discussion on how stuff can be labelled 'Made in Australia' but on closer examination it's 'from o/s sources' or only needs a miniscule amount of the product to be sourced here. Years ago a chap who worked in the food industry told me about the positioning of items in the shelves - the one they want you to buy most of is at eye level. Others at the top or the bottom of the shelves. Maybe if we'd had any kind of committed and intelligent Agriculture Minister somewhere in the last 20 years our producers would be better looked after.

Well had my first supermarket shop in a week, as I am minimising my shops and trips outside the house as much as possible at present. ie I canned my trip to Bunnings on the weekend as I was originally planning to get some timber and other building supplies.

Supermarket was very quiet. significantly less busy that at about the same time last week.
I went late morning to avoid any peak crowds. Pretty much since the initial TP Wars I have shopped late morning or early afternoon to avoid the crowds.

Mask wearing up. I elected to not wear mine as there simply was not a lot of people about and so physical distancing was not an issue.

Limits on many things, but I got everything I wanted and did not notice any shortages or empty shelves. Limits are not that tight anyway..ie 2 containers of milk, 2 loaves of bread and so are probably more aimed at hoarders that those doing normal shopping.

TP
  • Chinese TP still there, but is all half price now. WOW obviously trying to clear it out as probably many will refuse to buy it.
  • More selection of TP brands/sizes again, including the pack I prefer to buy being back.

Coles announced a meat vendor is closed due to positive C19 results so expect a panic run on their meat section.

I had $275 in digital vouchers I couldn't spend online so went to Coles at 7am on Saturday to spend on meat and some other products (Vitasoy Almond Protein Plus hasn't been in stock since March) so our freezer is full. Did not look at toilet paper 😁

There was about 6 people in Coles at the time but we were the only ones not wearing masks. One guy was wearing disposable gloves.

No signs at all of panic buying where I shop currently but I have bought a couple of items that I wanted to get last time and couldn't. We have eaten our way through the freezer now so starting to buy items that I now know we found to be useful last time. And will again work our way through those hopefully in next couple of months.

2 of the Melbourne Woolworths DCs are currently closed due to the amount of cases among staff. 1 is the Produce RDC in Dandenong South.
This warehouse normally supplies stores across Melbourne and southern VIC. This has resulted in supplies being rerouted from other DCs, such as Wodonga, Hobart, Adelaide, Sydney or the temporary contingency DC they have set up.
Southern NSW and ACT stores normally supplied from Wodonga have been changed to Sydney.
This may cause delays or smaller loads then expected.

Not sure which the other closed DC is.

Suspended operations at two of our Melbourne distribution centres
For the safety of our teams, we had no choice but to suspend operations at our two Mulgrave distribution centres in Melbourne last weekend after a number of team members tested positive to COVID-19. We picked up these cases as a result of our proactive testing program, testing more than 1,700 team members across our Victorian distribution and fulfilment centres in July

Any inside news on whether every one working at the DCs were wearing masks?

Will this affect Woolworths poker chip supply to their pokie machines or is that a different DC?
I'm waiting for the pokies to reopen. Online playing for free is just not the same.
