Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

I managed to nab a sub $40 printer at Big W last week while I wait for my proper one to arrive. They were the only place that seemed to have stock.

Are you still waiting on that printer you ordered!? Geeze!

Well had my first supermarket shop in a week, as I am minimising my shops and trips outside the house as much as possible at present. ie I canned my trip to Bunnings on the weekend as I was originally planning to get some timber and other building supplies.

Supermarket was very quiet. significantly less busy that at about the same time last week.
I went late morning to avoid any peak crowds. Pretty much since the initial TP Wars I have shopped late morning or early afternoon to avoid the crowds.

Mask wearing up. I elected to not wear mine as there simply was not a lot of people about and so physical distancing was not an issue.

Limits on many things, but I got everything I wanted and did not notice any shortages or empty shelves. Limits are not that tight anyway..ie 2 containers of milk, 2 loaves of bread and so are probably more aimed at hoarders that those doing normal shopping.

TP
  • Chinese TP still there, but is all half price now. WOW obviously trying to clear it out as probably many will refuse to buy it.
  • More selection of TP brands/sizes again, including the pack I prefer to buy being back.

As of today in the UK, face masks are mandatory in the UK too. Fortunately I'm exempt for health reasons, but it's odd we've had a lot of restrictions lifted, to only have that now put in place. This government really has no clue..... As with anything else they've done, it was announced 2 weeks ago and then took 2 weeks to 'implement'.

From Woolworths:

To help provide access to masks for as many customers as possible, we are sending tens of thousands of boxes of masks to Victorian Woolworths stores for customers to buy. We will prioritise hotspot areas, with stock arriving in time for the weekend and a limit of one box per customer.

In addition, up until Sunday evening, if you arrive at one of our stores (including BIG W, Dan Murphy's and BWS) without a face covering, we will provide you with one face mask free-of-charge.

Me: (and hopefully not dob you in to the police) ...

Does anyone in Vic need some disposable face masks?

I'd be interested to see feedback you might get from other AFFers.

I know (third hand) there was a huge rush on Monday and Tuesday that cleared the shelves from many stores but from the ads I'm getting from various companies saying they have plenty of stock I'm getting the impression there is no real shortage. I also have suspicion Coles or Woollies were either tipped off or anticipated as their emails indicate they have stocks and only rationing 1x50piece Boxes per day per person

On a personal level, I over bought copious supplies off eBay back in February when the scenarios being painted were very dire. Subsequently being in lock-down most of the time the stash has hardly moved. I won't need to buy before 3rd QU 2021

No problem getting masks around here, even Aldi have stacks. Work has given us each our own pack, and I made my own anyway.
The Aldi in the city was selling 50 for $35 a week ago and had plentiful supplies according to my neighbour (at that price I presume they are P2 , not P3)

Chemist Warehouse were unpacking cartons of disposable ones when I went in and Bunnings had N95’s individually packaged for $3:80 each.

On panic buying
We are still making sure the dog has four months supplies of his drugs. There is only our dog and a local child who has his keppra from our chemist . So we get it ordered in so we don't take the last bottle so to speak
Also the crafting machine I bought a month ago is definitely on the panic buying. Apparently Victoria has had a huge increase in the sale of the machine and it's accessories. People are now over tidying and now want to craft

I made another dozen masks yesterday ! I have become addicted to sewing them - going through my japanese kimono material at a great rate !!

With the right marketing, you could make some real pocket money. Masks like that are selling for $39 and sometimes much more on Instagram. Could add a spin about high quality non allergenic silks from Japan, handmade with love etc etc and double the price and give 20% discount 💰💰💰💰💰💰

BTW they also look much nicer than many available on sale and would attract the more discerning customer
