Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

I don't think it's panic buying worrying about things running out. It's people preparing to have enough provisions to self isolate for at least two weeks if things deteriorate and/or social distancing is imposed. Hope for the best, plan for the worst...

I agree that many have done this, and perhaps it started the phenomenon, but that quickly has become panic buying by everyone else who saw dwindling stocks.

Husband forced me to buy Glen20 so he can hose down the piano and room, as well as the wipes he's been using, when he goes for piano lessons.

The teacher encourages him because, "those kids are germ carrying petri dishes".

I must admit I did a little bulk buying yesterday morning - long life milk, cereal, rice, pasta, grains, canned beans tomatoes., all of which we will use anyway. Got home and MrMac says - how come you bought all this stuff I don't like?

I wonder if it will be received well when I make my next supermarket purchase via delivery, and hose down the poor delivery person with Glen 20 before they approach the house? "Open wide...."

But Coles and Woolies deliver. Tell them to leave it on the front step while shouting thanks through the door and you have provisions.

Then hose down the bags with Glen 20,once he's gone

I must admit I did a little bulk buying yesterday morning -....

We did the same over the past few weeks - all essentials and long-lifed stuff.

I do apologize to anyone who likes the Aldi canned tuna - if there are small hiccups in supply it is due to me :( It is something we absolutely love from Aldi (we like it better than any other canned tuna on the market)

I also secured supplies of other stuff - including a few online Dans orders for even more red wine - now maybe that was me using this whole thing to justify the fun of buying :)

Hubby asked today should he buy the bidet he promised me years ago. Might be cheaper than the brown market toilet paper gouging

I don't have enough food in the house for dinner tomorrow, but I do have 300 bottles of wine, so.... 🤷

I really don't get the panic buying. The loo paper companies have all said there is no supply issue.

OMG. Perhaps those things are useful, after all? I have removed them from each house I have had overseas as they simply made no sense to me. Have never "used" one, but the question that is begged is what do you do after you use one? Have wet jeans? Or do you still need paper to dry?

I have short circuited the toilet paper issue by panic buying a Japanese toilet. Which will be fine until scotty from marketing sends Peter Dutton round to lock me up for getting sick (deport me too if he gets a chance).
Don't worry Albo and the NSW crew are working on a secret rescue plan...Apparently just need to disinfect the paper bags...😉

You have, as I do, the real necessities secured - and I do think that does bring a sense of solidity, of safety. :)

RE the supply of dunny paper, of course there will be no hiccup in supply. The day that happens there will be far more dire shortages than something that is used, literally, just to wipe your ar_e.

As @Tropic and I have said, the purchase of supplies to enable a short quarantine period is really what is sane.

I have sooo much booze here and we don't drink alcohol, from wine to spirits

Willing to swap for toilet paper if the PM's efforts fail 🤣

If things go really bad, PM me your address!! :)

Hmmmm, Denali, I note your reply to my post was an emoticon that portrays laughter. I take that as a confirmation of your interest in what could be a superbly mutually-beneficial arrangement. Perhaps, given the gravity of these times, my people should talk to your people and get some exclusivity agreement in place for such potential future interchanges?

If it's the good ply stuff, our people can talk. 🤣
