re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Hi mel thank you for your kind words :D I am not worried that they will not be around more is the concern that they are about to be enhanced. Which we all know is not good. No one has come out and said no changes are about to happen. Today was about it will be advised by email to all who are registered. How simple would it have been to say no changes are going to be announced on the 10th April its all rumor. All that was relayed was changes will be announced by email if and when it happens.

Me thinks changes are happening. Are they good or bad I dont know

my point was a bit more subtle... when red roo proactively responded with 'they're here to stay' it implies they will remain unchanged. otherwise, why bother to respond at all? it would have been better to not post anything.

32 'likes' received, and so many thanking red roo for his input seems to indicate many thought his words were comforting (in the sense we'll maintain what we have now). would 32 people like your post if they though it was actually referring to 'they'll stay but with enhancements'? I think not.

given 32 likes and plenty of 'thank you posts' then it should have been cleared up pretty quickly if it was anything other than maintaining the status quo.

Maybe they will award status credits on classic awards instead???

Agred with here to stay BUT not convinced with no changes are going to happen. Again I say would have been easy for QF rep to say whe asked if changes to the ASA are going tro be announced as rumored on the 10th April or not. All he could say was all changes will be announced via email to members. Raised my suspicion I have to say

we'll see what happens. I'm thinking the new 'three month's notice' for changes will be in effect by then? so we'll have three months under the old system?

IMHO, while 'likes are nice to receive', to cite them in relation issue such of this has a similar standing to a media poll where the voter phones in.

This was the relevant portion of the sole Red Roo post in this thread:
... We can confirm that Any Seat Awards are here to stay and many members enjoy the flexibility of being able to purchase any fare using points.
When there is any news we will do our best to make sure that AFF are among the first to know.
It makes no reference to any changes to points cost/redemption levels.

FWIW, I have only ever redeemed for an xASA when classic award fare buckets are available.

Lets face it - for those into xASA's on this forum, those P, X, U and Z fare buckets are of most interest (although perhaps I should exclude X); most of us would not dream of redeeming for one otherwise.

So, by Red Roo's post, xASA are here and will be staying.

There is much unsaid, and implications are irrelevant.

I ask Red Roo the following:

- Will redemption levels for the Classic award P, Z & U fare buckets change?

- Will the minimum points level remains as it is currently (based on origin-destination great circle distance).

- Since the staff apparently required re-training, what will be specifically changed for them on the date, and how will it generally affect member of the Australian Frequent Flyer forum.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

serfty... I acknowledge your point. my issue about the 32 likes was only to show what most people took from red roo's statement. there wouldn't be 32 likes if it anyone thought he was alluding to an enhancement.

red roo would also have picked that up (he's is pr). so his silence potentially indicates confirmation of what the 32 likees thought.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Red Roo is "lurking" on the AFF boards as we speak, wonder what he / she thinks of all this chatter... Any chatter is not good IMO but lets see what they come up with...?

If what they come up with stinks, then we can all move on to another program if we are not happy :D It's a fine balance and I would imagine Red Roo and team understand this, question is, who does this enhancement benefit other than Qantas...? That's the real question we want answered here, do we all lose for Q to gain...? Or are there multiple winners...?

Also, not sure average public would understand the real value of some ASA's in the current system, hence for them there would be no "Enhancement" in their opinion if ASA at classic pricing was to disappear ...

If ASA's were to end, well for me it would be ...

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

10 April is when the "enhancements" come into effect.

RedRoo might need to revise his statement concerning this issue after this date.

ah yes, let the scaremongering - with no supporting evidence whatsoever - continue.

ROFL In our Dreams :D
Why not?

What makes an Any Seat award at Classic rates so special?

Personally I would love to receive SCs and QFF points on my Oneworld award bookings.

Agree. Even if taxes/fees are a little more (like on ASAs) the points and SC value would make them so much more appealing.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I find it really hard to believe that significant numbers of people really redeem points for "any" seat - i.e. the million-point redemption levels. Therefore the conclusion is that ASAs are only really popular as a substitute for classic awards, providing seats at or near to classic point levels with the addition of points/SCs for an additional cash fee. It would make sense to me that, if ASAs really were to disappear, this would be coupled with an option of paying extra cash when redeeming classic awards to have points/SCs awarded for classic bookings. Similar to the Max bundle on JQ business flights.

Of course since Red Roo has specifically said that ASAs are not going away, this is all speculation!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Opusman - ASAs are redeemed quite frequently when they share the same booking class/inventory as classic awards (P/U/Z/X class) - they are very popular as the points required are marginally more than classic and if you pay a certain amount using the slider it will be the same points as classic. I have to agree with the OP on this one - he/she knows what he/she talking about and RedRoo is going to look quite silly. The process has already started in fact. Look at DXB LHR where P and U class is avail - it charges 606K points all the time as a First ASA which is the full rate one way. Was in Melbourne last night with a friend who is Qantas reservations supervisor who also confirmed 10 April as the day ASAs will be withdrawn. Having read ansett's comments it makes more sense. You can rest assured QF has looked at this thread and is furious about it being leaked - so much so that all reservations staff at QF have been sent an email warning them to not disclose this information as it commercially sensitive and any further comments from staff about this will result in disciplinary action. Maybe after seeing all the negative comments QF may have a change of mind but don't bash the original poster the info is 100% spot on.

One further thing for the mix - the previous RedRoo also reported that the QC members access to LHR BA Galleries/Terraces issue was solved, and then had the whole thing fall apart again due to BA and QF being unable to negotiate an outcome. So don't assume that RedRoo cannot be "ambushed" by decisions and/or events higher up the food chain.

sorry opusman - I should have read your post more thoroughly.

there is no such thing as being ambushed by decisions elsewhere in a PR context. you either know the answer, or you find out, or you say nothing. PR is such an integral part of the company that they are involved in the highest levels of an organization the size of qantas (especially where their business is heavily reliant on safety and brand)

given what was reported here, further investigations would have been undertaken to find out the source of the claim and their accuracy.

i cannot imagine that red roo didn't undertake the investigation... so we'll have to wait and see what happens on the 10th.

So there's a week to go - however, if you have the plan, time, points and cash, maybe the advice in posts 22 and 23 should be heeded.
