re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Appears to be a few teething problems in the Award Booking system today. PER not available as an Airport but Cobar and Cooma are :p

when I tried the awards booking engine earlier I couldn't see international airports such as LHR, HKG or any Australian airports.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

ASAs are not going anywhere, and ASAs are avail to book on the Qantas website on ANY flight. The ASAs at CLASSIC rates are no longer available through the Qantas website and now have to booked through the call centre.

ASAs are not available via the website.

YASA can be booked online. I did a test from SYD to HKG (return) and could find a YASA (69k pts + ~$380 - more pts because you earn them back) at close to the level of a classic award (60k pts + ~$400) though you have to pick the cheapest fares since they correlate to $ amounts now. Pointless for status runs but at least you can avoid rip off classic award "taxes" for no point/SC earn

That is not an ASA.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

This is NOT confirmed and there is NO memos, internal communications that have been sighted as yet to say this.
3 months will just be phase two of the website.

I do not believe that for a second.

I honestly hope you are right, as much as my gut tells me otherwise.

Perhaps Red Roo can confirm that ASA at Classic levels will remain?

Surely you can see given the ludicrous phone to book process that joe public wont be informed about is here to stay.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Can't say RedRoo will ever be able to confirm things will "never ever" change (lessons from John Howard)
Even if RedRoo said there are no plans to change at present, that will still have people thinking it.

Best to stay silent

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

This is important to highlight. YASA/JASA/FASA can still be booked online. Just not the low cost ones that were equivalent to a classic reward.

No they can not be booked on line.

Points + Pay is basically ASA

Sorry points plus pay is not an ASA according to the T&Cs.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

As a Qantas Platinum Frequent Flyer (for the last 3 years, nothing that special), I will be switching all my travel to other carriers if the ASAs at classic availability is diminished in 3 months.

All Qantas have to do now (in order to keep our business and get all their customers back that they lost to VA/others), would be to provide points and SCs for Classic Awards. This would be awesome if this is the case, and would definitely breathe life into the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. (or provide it as an option like the Max Bundles on JQ)

Alternatively, I would even think that providing SC with no points for classic awards would be fairly palatable to some for whoever previously used ASA as a status retention tool.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I am sorry, but I have received the email from Qantas and I am no more wiser for it. If Qantas cannot explain the changes to its loyal and frequent customers - who then is writing the script. The requirement to book jasa flights by phone (although that is not clear from the email) is contrary to the way in which most customers would use it - ie search and match price with date and time and points. Looks like it has been designed by and for gen y. If Qantas is going to ditch the jasa awards - why the b-s. We hear enough spin from our Federal politicians - this nonsense from Qantas is well below the standard we have come to expect from them.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

How much time will the QF booking call centre be happy to spend on the phone to one of us trying to find the lowest points spend vs highest SC earn trip?

My chrome issues are fixed, after clearing the Cookies (not cache) the website now works correctly.

Well I hope this is not dollars, as airfares to Kiwiland have shot up!

You have to sorta hope that whatever limited improvement they thought they would get by this 'enhancement' is worth all the cough they are causing everyone and getting a decent serve back of... Unless there are bigger changes afoot, which might justify p!ssing a lot of people off...

Untick the "View in Points" or "Search Classic Awards only" box

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I need to state something in defense of Markis10....

Markis is probably the number 1 JASA subject matter expert on this site.

I know he has given countless hours of his own time to assist members both individually and as a community to search and book fantastic value ASA fares both for Status Runs and for general travel.

None of us would have the wealth of JASA related information that we do if it wasn't for Markis.

Therefore - I appreciate his past efforts, I appreciate his efforts to foster a close relationship with QF, and I appreciate QF reciprocating with Markis and the mods on behalf of all of us.

I think it's time to give the benefit of the doubt and lay off.

Clearly - something was afoot, and had I had a DSC offer - I would have burned my points yesterday too!

I've basically shut up about this, until now, because I'd hate to see any bookings cancelled or anything stupid like that. Such action is not warranted at all. The warning to act was out there already. But I can't defend either because it simply is not a good look.

I don't think Markis10 did anything I would not have done after reading this thread at 4pm.

Last night I too would have booked a JASA flight that I want to take next year (Hong Kong - Adelaide) but simply did not have enough points to do so. And I certainly had no private briefings.

The issue is that he didn't just read this thread. I'm just raising the issue not suggesting any response to that issue.

ASAs are not available via the website.

...

No they can not be booked on line.

...
Yes they can be - see my post #749 - just not out of the U/P/Z fare buckets.

New booking engine slowly going up

Cheap JASA appear gone. In so far as ASA all together seems gone, just points+pay tired directly to revenue tickets irrespective of award availability.
No - to see ASA, you click "[Use Points]" to the top righ of the flight selection window.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I will be trying out the new telephone booking system in a few days time.
I have a SYD-HKG FASA for June next year and will try to book the return once the Classic P Award is released.
At this stage I have all my fingers and toes well and truly crossed ;)
Will report back the experience

uncheck the box 'show classic awards only" before hitting 'search flight' ?
