ASAs are not going anywhere, and ASAs are avail to book on the Qantas website on ANY flight. The ASAs at CLASSIC rates are no longer available through the Qantas website and now have to booked through the call centre.

Can you also confirem that JASA will still be available at the points level that they are today ie Classic awards and that they are NOT going to be removed in 3 months as is the general feeling on here.

I'm not sure how Red Roo can comment one way or the other if they're in review by someone else.

We gained something a couple years ago, and have now lost it (well almost), so other than the past couple years being lucrative we're not moving drastically backwards. I recall at the time there may have been speculation it was to burn outstanding points... and maybe that's finally happened to a level they're comfortable with.

For those that want to complain and think the sky is falling in, at least complain thorough the correct channels so it's actually recorded with Qantas, not just on here!

YASA can be booked online. I did a test from SYD to HKG (return) and could find a YASA (69k pts + ~$380 - more pts because you earn them back) at close to the level of a classic award (60k pts + ~$400) though you have to pick the cheapest fares since they correlate to $ amounts now. Pointless for status runs but at least you can avoid rip off classic award "taxes" for no point/SC earn

Oh, good lord.

How about an apology, at least - for your past comments in this thread and non help with issues identified here?

* Your call centres continues to INSIST that ASAs can still be booked online. Truly - honestly, they are!! I can't tell - by QF site is almost un-functional.

* Your web site DOES have non functionality - I've tried several browsers, done the cache thing, re-booted. Your call centre IS acknowledging problems, so are waiving opfees.

* Lucky some who got the e-mail. Nothing for me yet.

Yes, I know you've hopped in here and now bolted. Sorry, based on your performance here - no loss.
I think it's important to remember that sometimes the public face of a company can be tied as to what they are allowed to say in a public forum. This change is obviously upsetting to anyone who has enjoyed the benefits of ASAs in the past, but perhaps we could all keep in mind that Red Roo has been seen to step in on a number of occasions where there has been customer service issues, and no doubt that intervention has been appreciated by those who benefited. I would not like to be responsible for the PR for this "enhancement" at all!

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Correct, if the classic award is available, you can get that at the ASA rate and original cash fee, but it has to be done through reservations. ASAs are available, but the ones at X, U, W, P fare class aint.

What's the difference ?

I have also lost the capability to search for &/or book my own FF redemption travel.

How have you lost the ability to search and book for redemption travel??

You can still search for everything, and book most redemption travel online. It's just certain ("marginal") JASA/FASA redemptions that now have to be done by phone.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Its fine to advise QFF members of specials etc etc. but with these major changes not received anything, no email, nix, had to come to AFF to find out then go check to see that abomination of a web site, shame on your Qantas.

I'm so dam livid at this treatment I'm now searching for a decent VA CC for spend points.

OK, I know it's easy, but I'm totally confused.

I can Pay+Points on the website - and I can do so at the Classic rate ... even below ... is this supposed to be the new ASA method?

If not, how do I book an ASA online?

I must admit, the "enhanced website" is *very* confusing - nothing like a clear, blue sky.

I doubt anybody here ever books YASA's ;)

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

What's the difference ?

they book into a different fare class, thus cost more (than a 'marginal' ASA which is dependant on classic availabiltiy...and not bookable online now...but bookable by phone...if a classic award exists)

This is important to highlight. YASA/JASA/FASA can still be booked online. Just not the low cost ones that were equivalent to a classic reward.

Points + Pay is basically ASA

So for those who are going on and on about the big change, all you need to do is find the fare you want at the classic award level, then call the call centre and book it as an Any Seat Award.

FWIW on the website the text and lines are way too big when looking at fares, and once again the website is too bloody white..

Also changes from looking at it:
-Can put in any departure port (don't have to go to the QF's country's website)
-Session time-outs and can extend it (gives warnings)
-It does look better (minus a few things)
-Credit Card payment fees are lower (lol)
-Search ASA's in one click, besides different search engines (excluding the ones being discussed at the moment)
-Log in mid search to FF profile
-Change search with out starting whole process again

I need to state something in defense of Markis10....

Markis is probably the number 1 JASA subject matter expert on this site.

I know he has given countless hours of his own time to assist members both individually and as a community to search and book fantastic value ASA fares both for Status Runs and for general travel.

None of us would have the wealth of JASA related information that we do if it wasn't for Markis.

Therefore - I appreciate his past efforts, I appreciate his efforts to foster a close relationship with QF, and I appreciate QF reciprocating with Markis and the mods on behalf of all of us.

I think it's time to give the benefit of the doubt and lay off.

Clearly - something was afoot, and had I had a DSC offer - I would have burned my points yesterday too!

For 3 months then they are gone.

IMHO the single best use of points is about to vanish, that is worth going on and on about.

This is NOT confirmed and there is NO memos, internal communications that have been sighted as yet to say this.
3 months will just be phase two of the website.

Appears to be a few teething problems in the Award Booking system today. PER not available as an Airport but Cobar and Cooma are :p

As a Qantas Platinum Frequent Flyer (for the last 3 years, nothing that special), I will be switching all my travel to other carriers if the ASAs at classic availability is diminished in 3 months.

All Qantas have to do now (in order to keep our business and get all their customers back that they lost to VA/others), would be to provide points and SCs for Classic Awards. This would be awesome if this is the case, and would definitely breathe life into the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. (or provide it as an option like the Max Bundles on JQ)

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Points + Pay is basically ASA

So what's with the "cannot book at the Classic Rate" line?

Couple of weeks ago, JASA MEL-WLG-MEL at Classic Rate ... actually I priced this myself at a round 80,000 points and $467.50.

Today, I can book the same (Business Saver) at $1,752 cash or from $1,716 + 5K points, through $1,247 + 72K (Classic Level), and $1,191 + 80K points (255% increase in cash component) up to $0 + 215K.

Now, I realise that this is madness compared with last week (in that it is obviously Pay+Points re-branded) but it does contradict the belief that "ASAs" can no longer be booked at Classic Level ... unless I'm missing something?

The other question - and this is probably more for Red Roo - if the option is available to call for the "marginal ASA" (old redemption levels) is available, why isn't this being advised to the general QFF community in the email which was sent out?

Strikes me if we are calling for transparency for our Mods, we should be doing it for all.

BD
