If they are actually needing to go MEL-SYD, or SYD-BNE, etc they can just do that domestic leg and without stepping foot in the international terminal, ring to cancel and go about their merry way...? That's kinda what I was referring to, not so much a status/squiggle run for the sole purpose of qualifying for AA status.

I understood what you meant.

Do you think anyone would book international itineraries with a domestic connection and cancel after the domestic flight more than once? All this so they can accrue status or squiggles for status?

It's not worth the hassle you could receive on your next entry to the USA with a please explain.

Just wondering

What if people with AA "life time" status fail to get 4 flights?

Happy wandering

That's what you mean by hassle.
Will that info be given to US CBP anyway?
How about if you book a stopover at your Australian port of departure then cancel?
How about those people that just no-show for their flights (a la overbooking being common practice in the airline industry)?
Or for changing dates multiple times (business people with last minute changes and whatnot)?

This is all for discussion purposes - I don't think I will ever be in that position anyway.

I don't know. I guess the airlines would send that information well in advance for passenger checks.

I know it is for discussion purposes only. I'd be interested to see if anyone would be game enough.
