Comfy dress vs Acceptable dress

So is it considered OK to wear QF J pyjamas on an overnight QF flight in Y? To be honest, I don't recall ever seeing anyone do this!

My daughter wears the QF or Emirates F PJs in Y all the time. Doesn’t care!

As long as everyone in economy doesn't wear PJ's during the flight it's OK. If everyone started doing it, can you imagine the queues prior to landing!

Then you will start seeing people walk on/off planes in their PJs.

Most people in Y dont have a clue that PJs are being worn up front and its an option they should consider for themselves.

True that, I remember being quite surprised when I did my first long haul in a very long time (I was also op-up'd to J), and I was handed some PJ's. I remember that I didn't get changed immediately, it was probably a good third of the way through the flight before I change my top into the PJ top. It was over half way when I changed my pants as well.

The other thing I remember about that flight was I didn't sleep a wink since I was just so excited, not only traveling long haul, but doing it in style.

I get stressed-out about the time it takes to tuck magazines into backpacks & the like upon landing; dunno how well I’ll be coping with the timing required to make a toilet-visit in order to get changed just prior to the seatbelt-sign coming on ... and fitting it in between all those others making their prior-to-landing toilet visits. :)

Most J cabins are about 30-40 people, sometimes 3 toilets. Some people do it as soon as they board (I dont, what if we abort take off/disembark), some after seat belt off sign and I noticed a lot after a meal/relax time.

For landing, usually after breakfast so a good 40mins before landing.

Choices of comfortable trousers/shorts are getting easier for blokes. Plenty of stretch chinos options available and yesterday I saw some denim look jeans that were very stretchy and had an elasticised waist and bottom hem-think I am a bit old for some of them!

True, but also there is very little advantage to wearing them in Y. After all you are sitting up all flight and the seats thin enough as it is, you need as much padding as you can get not less! Even in business very few change into PJs on day flights (compared to the number that do on night flights). It seems to be more about getting a comfortable sleep than being comfortable sitting down.

I also don’t know about others but my regular clothes tend be comfortable - even the trousers/slacks I wear to work often. After all in the office i’m sitting there for hours on end. If they weren’t comfortable I wouldn’t buy them.

I've found most people are changed back into normal clothes a good hour or two before actually landing. I'm typically changed back into my normal clothes about the time they serve breakfast. There might be a few who do the last minute rush but I think that's pretty rare.

I always fly long haul in stretch chino shorts and a t shirt and shoes that can be slipped on, like converse. I find gym shorts and thongs are comfy to change into once in the air. If I am not going in a lounge then its active ware and thongs from the beginning.

I paid good money for that seat, I'm going to be comfortable in it.

I wait until just after breakfast before changing back; lets the PJs handle any crumbs ...

It depends on how well I sleep, if I sleep well I have known to have to be woken for breakfast, for me that's a good flight though yes, sometimes this does make it a bit rushed if multiple people need to change.

Just wear the pyjamas in the lounge prior to boarding. On QF5 right now about to take off. Curious if anyone is going to be brave. ;)

I really like Bassike for comfy plane gear bassike
Their long-sleeved cotton tops and harem pants are comfy to wear in the seat and then look quite cool and casual going through the airport and in the lounge with a blazer/jacket.
I normally pop the plane PJs in my carry on when I receive them and save them to wear as my PJs for the rest of the trip. Pack a spare tee/shirt and undies in your carry on and you're good to go!

Just as I thought. Not one person wearing pyjamas in economy. Thank God.

Oh and no thongs, shorts and singlets either. The rear economy cabin was freezing and the forward economy cabin was warm.

But it's not only about being comfortable... also protects clothes against food and beverage spills, and prevents your shirt/trousers getting creased.

Don’t forget there’s nowhere to hang anything in Cattle, so to avoid wrinkles/creases you’re going to have to somehow roll or fold your stuff & stow it in your carry-on.

There's sometimes a coat hook on economy seat. But those can be annoying to use in close confined. But otherwise you just lie it straight and flat on top of your carry-on in the overhead. No need to roll or fold :)

I higher cabins it's mildly annoying for airlines to impose the idea that because it's a day flight you (a) won't want to sleep or (b) don't want to arrive with your clothes looking fresh.

I had a daytime flight to Singapore on QF last year ... oddly, they played the “it’s now night time, everyone go to sleep!” game.
Even though it was about midday!
