Hi there
Travelling with the family to the US, my wife and I have decided to buy 3 seats in Economy to give us a little more room.

Talking with a friend over the weekend who had just flown in from the US with Qantas, he tells me that the centre arms rests are fixed these days and you are unable to raise them.

Is this correct ??

If so, I still think having that extra seat between us will still give us a degree of comfort in Economy. What do you think ??

cheers

AFAIK it is only the first row of economy seats that have the fixed arm rests in economy. In any case, not having someone in the middle seat would be more comfortable than if it were occupied.

Ah that explains the comment from my friend. He and his daughter had the exit row seats.

Many thanks for clearing that up.

cheers

The reason the exit rows and bulkhead rows have fixed arm rests is due to the tray tables and IFE screens needing to be located in or on the arm rests. Other economy rows have the tray tables and IFE screens on the back of the seat in front.
