Citibank- transfering points before devaulation

I don't like citibanks points transfer they have higher minimum transfer than any other credit card I have, even after March 18 your existing points still should have had the same value.
Anz has devalued some of there points but existing points kept the same value.
I think you are somewhat preaching to the converted here.

As a general principle we earn and burn fairly quickly. And it's not really 3 years with a few tricks.

Care to elaborate on the tricks?

After much deliberation, I moved all my points over to SQ, hoping to get a suite at some stage. In the meantime, I am in the process of booking a QF one world award so I won't be able to use the SQ for a while.

Does this trick incur a 35% penalty? :)

Anyway transferring my points to SQ before midnight tonight when the new rate kicks in.

Yes transfer to VA is one way to stop points expiring though as you have noted for a % penalty.

KF allows points extension of those points once for a fee.

You can book for almost a year out and so that in itself means that you can fly at upto almost 4 years after when a point is earnt/transferred. You can also rebook tickets to a new date subject to availability.

Also you can book a flight for a Redemption Nominee, and then they later return the favour by booking you a reward flight. KF allows you to nominate "friends" and not just family members.

1. You can extend by 6 months anyway with a fee.
2. You can then book a flight close enough to 12 months out
3. At anytime up to the flight time you can then change that flight which includes changing beyond that 12 months

I'm not 100% sure how long this will give you but we did this recently for my wife, and by my calculation she effectively was able to use her flight close to 5 years after earning rather than 3.

So not in this instance 35% fee though yes, this is another trick.

Had heart attack when 1 million points required for Virgin sydney--LA Business 1way
But then found reward seat for 110k in winter brrrr

Last of my citi points swept off to KF today. Zero balance.

Yep zero balance here to. Now to push more towards my Amex card where possible.

Wow more points arrived in my Citi account so I sent this latest lot off to VA. Had to use my iPad but it all worked well from London.

Just logged in. Citibank Rewards system has been "upgraded". Now minimum 20K points to convert to 10K for KF/VA.

My 69 Citibank points has just been devalued. I have "lost" total of 11.5 KF/VA miles :p

Citibank striking early. Would it have really bothered them to wait 20 mins (assuming AEDT) and keep to their word?

Agreed, I was assuming in this instance he was a basic member but you can do even better if silver or above.

Let's just say if your status is high enough you shouldn't worry about points expiry.

Mind you - once you get hooked (and then get your family members hooked), the points tend to evaporate pretty quickly... I actually worry about continuing to earn at a fast enough rate, not using what is there.
