Citibank- transfering points before devaulation

rickb - If you fly SQ in Business Class, First Class or Suites those points will be lucky to last 1 year, let alone 3.

Let me encourage you to use them on something nice. Once you fly SQ Suites, it's bloody hard to go back to anything else.

Sounds tempting but doubt that I can accumulate that many points per year to fly business class. Although I am leaning to KrisFlyer.

As long as SQ is your transfer target AND meets the time frame then you're OK.

But with Velocity announcing the June 1 devaluation for Etihad redemptions (and some others) - it is almost like a poison chalice.

Watch the J & F reward seats to Europe evaporate in front of your eyes...

F return x 2 looks so enticing. Now about those summer dates....

How easy is it to book a reward seat roughly 12 months out and then in 6 or 7 months time change it to then 11 months out?

Say lock in a May 2017 Eur rtn and then switch it to a Dec 17 out/Jan 18 in reward flight in F?

Why are members chosing Kris Flyer over Virgin? Just curious as I have 230K points but don't like the idea of expiry after 3 years.

As a general principle we earn and burn fairly quickly. And it's not really 3 years with a few tricks.

Gday

Happy to be corrected but it is my experience that the maximum time in advance your departure date can be from booking date is 365 days. Even when pushing back the flight the 365 days is still counted from the date of the original booking. Last year i tried to change a Dividend Miles departure to 366 days from the original booking date but they would not allow it.

Actually i will contradict myself now as i just booked an Airasia flight for April 2017. Maybe budget airlines have different rules to full service carriers?

Anyone?

Pele.

I assume we are talking about booking using points and not cash?

SQ booked via Krisflyer is less than a year. About 10 days less.

Different FF programs have different windows.

So with VFF reward redemption for EY flights can you change dates to effect a further into the future return booking than currently available?

Sorry I am not a big user of VFF and so do not lnow it well (Though I once book on EY through VFF to fly MEL to Nairobi in J one way. Good redemption as there was a points transfer bonus in, and also a redemption discount at the time. Taxes and charges were only $57)

Cleared my Citi points to SG
Over 2m points r now gone from Citi
They have just lost over $1m a year in business.

You meant SQ?

I did as well tonight to SQ and it's a big relief.

Now I need to work out how to spend those points within next 3 years.

Apart from on SQ and *A there is also good vaue to be had booking domestic VA on some routes as the redemptions are region based. ie MEL-CNS is cheap in points (as you can fly anywhere in the east coast to anywhere in the east coast for a flat rate) and when I booked taxes and charges were $0.

Yes there are many uses of these KF points. Mostly I spend it on SQ or South Pacific NZ awards.

Yes it is all First World Problems. I guess I just need to have First Class solutions.

Maybe I just need more excuse to travel more often. But having 2 small kids stops that .....

That is precisely the logic I use to travel more often ;)

I'm having a great time burning through Krisflyer miles - always availability in J/F and low taxes

Yes Andy the taxes are high with Kris Flyer redemptions so definitely no good for economy redemptions. The miles are very good for business, first and suites if you get saver redemptions.
Just watch the 3 year plus one miles expiry and you should end up loving the service.

May I ask why? Decades is a long time to tone down ones travel, and IMO your kids will miss some great experiences as will your wife and you.

My youngest 2 are now both at Uni....but we did not stop our travels when the first was born, and then the latter two were born.
We changed how we travelled in that we minimised single night stops in favour of several days to a week at each stop. But we mainly started frequent flying travel after we started a family. J travel only really came into into in their teens.

Kids when very young are a great passport to opening doors.

Best family bonding experience ever was a 10 week backpacking trip through Egypt, Jordan, Israel which was finished off with 2 weeks of island hopping in SW Thailand when my daughters were 5, 8 and 11 (the Xmas after 9/11 and so very few westerners apart from us on the Middle East sections).

When toddlers we chose places like California in a RV, Fiji (very child friendly), Bali, New Zealand as well as many Australian destinations that needed flights to get there (bareboating on a yacht in the Whitsundays fora fortnight is perfect for families). When a bit older it included Vietnam, Thailand, Middle East and Europe.

I don't really want to stray OT but my oldest g/daughter went to Europe twice & Fiji once before she turned 3. The youngest went to Europe before she was 6 months old. It can be done.

My kids are 3 years and one is 4 months old. Right now it is hard to control them but we are planning our trip to HK/China/Japan next 2 months. Let's see how it goes. If it goes well I may plan more travelling. My wife is a very conservative type of person.
