Citi Select - New Benefits

Great, thanks for the info Cruiser Elite. To get the bonus points, did you apply for Select via your relationship manager, online, or over the phone on the Citigold 1800 number? Sorry for all the questions... ;) I'm still trying to decide whether to take the plunge or not - I like the fact that CBG is a good parking area for points until I decide what I want to do with them (QFF, etc.), whereas I would need to decide with Select. Decisions, decisions...

I am pretty sure that you are not locked in for life with Citi Select. You can swap between the programs. Take a close look at the T and Cs

My understanding of the Ts and Cs is that changing programs is not a problem. Just be sure to do it when there are few if any QFF points in the Citi account because these will disappear in a puff of smoke when you change...

Ah, now I get it! Many thanks for your advice, that makes me feel a lot better about my options.

Are you talking about those accounts that credit directly to Qantas? How is it possible to store QFF points in a Citi Rewards program? I know you can transfer CBG Rewards points to QFF but I don't think you're meaning that here - or are you?

My last post was unclear. No, you can't store the QFF points with Citi Select, they get transferred monthly to your QFF account. The point I was making is that if you change from one program to another in the middle of a billing cycle, having (say) just paid a large tax bill then any points sitting in your Citi rewards account, waiting to be transferred at the end of the month, will simply disappear. It is just a matter of timing the switch.

I think asg29e means if the change is made within a billing period?
Say you had a big spend but the points had not transferred yet.
And you swapped programs.

Ah yes, I see what you mean - thanks for the clarification. It's a good point, will keep that in mind. I'm not as lucky as some who have a large tax bill to have that particular problem...

It was a long story - I am nowhere near their income requirements - so I had to get a bit creative.

Yes, you most certainly did! ;) Tenacity is everything with Citi - I've been with them enough years to know that. Well done for your efforts!

I can report a change of program where the stored points didn't disappear. That said I wouldn't want to count on it

I had spoken to 2 Citi staff about getting Mrscove a second Citi Select card for Kris points before I read this thread today.
All we have to do is stop using the Qantas designated card until the points earned are fully transferred to QF and then switch over for Kris points.
Figuring out how to pull off the switch in our world of travel, paying taxes and living costs will need to be planned but it is not impossible.
Thanks everyone for your posts on this thread. $700 saved can produce almost 350,000 Kris points when I set my mind to it.

Evidence from my last statement that the points MAY not disappear when the change is made. There was one monthly debit I forgot about and when I was doing the change over on the phone the CSR volunteered that she was able to transfer the points across. Indeed if you look at the Citibank statements when linked to QFF I THINK the points are initially given out as Citi points, stored up and then the balance is halved and then transferred across to QFF

But wouldn't chance it with the volume you are putting through cove :)

BTW for others who may be looking at this card it would seem that there is little point getting QFF points (beyond maybe the sign on bonus) with this card. The points match system seems a suitable alternative

If I recall correctly when I signed up for my card the offer was for 80000 Citi points or 80000 QFF points. Is this your recollection also? One tactic may be to sign up for QFF points, wait until the QFF points are safely posted then transfer to the Citi rewards program.

Depends how much you want to spread the love I suppose, but if you just want QFF points, for most people there are probably cheaper alternatives.

I have transferred my card to Citi rewards; I didn't check if the residual points (probably about as many as Newk's) disappeared but I do remember reading about it in the Ts & Cs so I wouldn't risk it with a large balance.

And I am having a lovely time overseas at the moment earning 5 pts/$ on absolutely everything.

I reckon asg29e is correct. The current sign on offer is 50,000 citi points or 50,000 QFF points
To get likely maximum benefit (of course depending on what points you want) you'd take the QFF sign on and then change to citi rewards

Depends how you value different types of points though? Ignoring a specific reason (e.g. short on QFF points and excess SQ points), I'd value 33k SQ points higher than 50k QF points.

:) I'm still learning ;)

haven't done any SQ redemptions yet. I need to sit down and learn how to navigate their site. LOL at the same time as following my SPG, HH, AA, Velocity, citi, altitude and QFF points. I'm sure I've forgotten some...oh yeah Diners
