Cheap fares to the USA

OTOH, 140 SC for $900 (around $6.50/SC) isn't too shabby..

Qantas says you can't use an AA codeshare on the flights to LAX/SFO at the under $1000 rate :(

zan5hin, if you're trying to do the AA challenge, the cheapest & quickest AA codeshare is SYD-HNL. A return SYD-HNL is just over 10k miles, and should get you 10k EQP, if you book it in a high enough fare.

Alternatively, if time isn't an issue, do NRT-LAX or NRT-JFK on the ~$1000 AA fare, and either fly on JL flights or credit the QANTAS flights to QFF.

WRT to AA SYD-JFK $1199 .....

For my dates I only seem to be able to pick up the SYD/NAA legs on JAL - which is better for AA points - but I can't access the SYD QP with a QP card when flying JAL can I?

What about in NAA on return?

I believe I would have been alright with AA platinum (sapphire) but that expired a few days ago :( what's the chance of getting that extended a month or two? ... I got it on a challenge to begin with ....

Just checked ANZ website and selected departure dates in June & July (peak Northern Hemisphere travel season) from BNE/SYD/MEL via AKL to SFO/LAX are still available for $925 (Aust $) return including all taxes.

This is great value! I wonder if any airlines will go under the $900 level?

Not just the Y fares coming down, Y+ with Qantas is down about $2,000.
Amazing what a global economy downturn, and competition can do to fares. ;)

Really? I haven't been able to find any routes and dates with PE for that price.
Which routes and dates have Y+ for $2000?

That is not what was said... the Y+ fares are $2000 lower than what they were...

The specials are getting better and better I think...

United Airlines - Melbourne to Orlando or New York .... < $1100 all in. (flying between 03 July 09 and 31 October 09 on the outbound sector)

Fare Basis KAUUS7 . Don't have full details on how long the sale is for yet.

Many other US locations also on sale with United, but I thought Orlando and New York were perfect examples of East Coat destinations that are often much higher in price...

Yes I got a Best Flights email and United has SYD-LAX for $1099 for Sept (when I want to go). Homebound flight is via SFO though. All the other UA offerings are via SFO both ways.

Delta does it for $1155 (all in) and it's SYD-LAX direct.

Then Air Canada (via YVR) is $1504 still! Then I checked what SYD-YVR (my ultimate destination) would cost and it's $1992!!! So nearly $500 cheaper to book to LAX and jump ship in YVR! (Yes I know if I book directly with AC it's about $1500 but why these discrepancies through Best Flights?)

Best (to book directly with the airline) Flights might be a better name?

and here comes Delta...
Delta Air Lines has further raised the stakes in the fierce trans-Pacific price war by announcing launch return air fares from Sydney to Los Angeles from $777 plus taxes and charges.

Business class starts from $7,777 plus taxes and surcharges.

Daily flights begin on July 3, subject to Government approval, with the launch fares on sale until April 9 for travel between July 3 and October 31.

Flights will depart Sydney at 9.15am, arriving 6am the same day and return LA at 10.40pm arriving in Australia at 6.40am two days later.

The carrier is also offering travel beyond LA with return economy fares from $977 plus taxes and surcharges to Atlanta, Boise, Detroit, Indianpolis, New York, Orlando, Memphis, New Orleans, Seattle, Salt Lake City and Cincinnati. Business class is $9,777.

Delta will operate Boeing 777-200LR aircraft on the Sydney to LA route.

In a separate development, the airline this morning confirmed that from today Global Aviation Services will represent both Delta and subsidiary Northwest Airlines in the Australian market.

Something interesting came up when looking at the United website. A family of four (kids under 11) can fly to LAX (out late Sept, back mid Oct) for $3960 which is fantastic.

However, should we want to fly on to YVR (via LAX) with the same dates the cost is:
$7506!
An additional 2.5 hour flight each way almost doubles the cost!

[Elmer Fudd] Somefing scwewy's going on awound here![/Elmer Fudd]

Obviously I'd be booking LAX-YVR separately!

Have you tried looking at them as two separate fares :?:

Not yet. I was just wondering why it was so over the top.

I'm thinking of either booking SYD-YVR with AC and getting a separate package deal for YVR-LAX with Alaska that would include hotel and Disney passes etc. Alternatively I book SYD-LAX with a side-trip to YVR (we'll be spending most of our time in Canada) and stop off in LAX for Disney on return.
Plenty of time yet. Although I note that QFF award seat for 14-17 October (LAX-SYD) are gone and the dates either side fly via MEL or AKL. Must be something on.

Well you might call me a looney but I just booked with QF for $3940 for the family. A drop of some $2000 in the space of a few hours. Paid the $100 deposit anyway. If something better comes along before Sunday then I might have to forgo the $100!

When I looked at these flights 6-9 months ago it was more like $10-11K for the family!!!

Decided against AC this far out as they may not be flying to SYD by September. QF is a reasonable bet.

Where can I get the best fare info to get to YVR from LAX?

I am looking for flights SYD-YVR, but with all these sale fares to LAX, I too am wondering whether it will work out cheaper to get a separate ticket for LAX-YVR.

Thanks in advance!
