Cheap fares to the USA

I'd be mad to book flights SYD-LAX-YVR for September-October for a while yet wouldn't I? Prices are still $2400 or thereabouts. It's nice to have things booked but I'd be full of regrets before too long no doubt.
Any ideas when they'd start promoting fares for that far in the future? I guess it's just past the peak.

Any flights going to or from YVR from Sep/Oct '09 on will be at a premium as the training camps for the 2010 Winter Olympics start in September 2009 with the games in early February.

Personally I would lock in something sooner rather than later for the LAX-YVR legs as I doubt they will come down much, if at all.

Good point file51. I get alerts from Alaska Airlines so I'll grab a fare soon.

Just have to then make sure the SYD-LAX bookings matches with it.

Disney here we come!:D

I'm monitoring the flights to Vancouver daily... I've noticed Air Canada has come down $500...

BNE > SYD > YVR = $2148/return for October travel.... if it comes down under that psychological mark of $2000... I'm going to jump on it (I know I could probably get a cheaper set of flights if I went BNE > LAX > YVR but I think I'd prefer to change planes in Sydney (safety barrier lol)

Are you looking at the Air Canada website or at all the online bucket stores?
I get so many variable fares on Webjet, Best Flights etc from day to day I am just looking at the airlines directly at present. My mum is off to YVR in June. I just found Air Canada's best fare and sent her the print-out which she took to Fight Centre and booked. Of course they got busy trying to flog her unnecessary insurance but that's another issue!

Thinking of doing it direct but as we want to go to Anaheim we'd have to book a return trip out of YVR for LAX as well.

Will keep looking.

EDIT: just checked on the Air Canada website and mid September departure with mid October return comes to $7500 all inclusive for a family of 4 (kids under 11). I did this a week ago and it was about $8700. I note they still slug a fuel surcharge of $130 per pax which may go.

A few months ago I priced this through Webjet at $11000.

Qantas flights to the US on Sale!

Escape to the US with these great Qantas fares to Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.

These fares are available for departures from 4 March to 16 June 2009. Other great deals are also available for departures from 17 June to 24 October 2009, different fares apply.

BNE-LAX $1077
BNE-SFO $1092^
BNE-JFK $1478+

^ Valid on QF73/74 only.
+ Valid on QF107/108 only.

SYD-LAX $971
SYD-SFO $971
SYD-JFK $1363

MEL-LAX $960
MEL-SFO $993
MEL-JFK $1360

Apparently books into O class according to www.americanexpress.com.au/travel, which is not upgradable using QFF points.

Just bought a SYD-SFO-LAX-SFO-SYD ticket on UA for AUD1044 all-in. Depart May, return July. Was an extra $10 because I added the US domestic flights.

I could have booked QF for the same dates for AUD975, but I opted for UA as it would give me 75,000 FF points vs approx 15,000 on QF. Also, as a Mileage Plus 1K, I have selected an exit row; heaven knows what I'd get on Qantas. Another benefit for me is free entry to the UA Red Carpet Clubs, whereas with QF I would get zilch.

A no-brainer really...

QF is obviously working hard to defend the transpac market share!

Lets hope this new price war lasts...

Suddenly I can get the family of 4 to LAX for $6300 (Sept-Oct). That's gonna go down again? Will play the waiting game.

$90 of the ~$200 difference between those new Qantas 'sale' fares and those of earlier in the week is due to the $45 each way reduction in Fuel fines (Down from $260 to $170 rt).

If I may quote myself from above I said I'd found SYD-LAX rtn for the family (2 kids <11yo) for Sept-Oct for about $6300 and thought I had a bargain. I only checked May-June later and it's less than $3500! Makes me think about pulling the kids out of school! Won't though.

When you click on "Fares for next 12 months it looks like a set of steps where they will jack up prices for the northern summer (natch) and then drop back a little but not as much as they are now. Then they'll keep heading up. Puh-lease! They'll follow the market won't they? I'm not goign to book until I see better than what they offer now for Sept-Oct. I'd have to be able to do better than $6300 at this rate.

That O class QF MEL-SFO looks interesting.

Can you whack on the AA codeshare and get 100% miles and 1.0 EQP?

I'm thinking of buying some flights for my parents to LAX, SFO, or JFK from PER; doesn't really seem to be any "super great" deals. Would be looking at Perth school holidays times (July or October) as my mother's a Deputy Principal.

Geeze I'm a good son aren't I

Here's me thinking that buying an apple for the teacher is extravagant :p

What dates do you input to get those prices? I can't get anything but the usual prices with May-June and Sept-Oct.

The taxes would be huge anyway?

Only for March-April, and it comes out to about $900 inc tax to LA. However, the routing is SYD-NRT-LAX, which takes a full two days to arrive...
Not quite worth the discount IMO...
