Hi everyone,

I have a J booking coming up in July this year (FRA - SIN, SIN - SYD) which is already confirmed (not waitlisted). I want to change my SIN - SYD leg to a later time, however when I go into Manage Booking it doesn't give me any options and instead says there are no flights available on this day.

I called the SQ call centre and I was told that while there is availability on the later flight I wish to change to, I would be put on a waitlist, even though I am already confirmed on the FRA - SIN leg on which the waitlist applies for.

Is this how it normally works or should I try call again to try get a different operator?

Yes this is how it works. SQ uses married segments so there needs to be availability on both flights when booked together.

Can you not still waitlist for the flights you want without cancelling the existing booking?

Hi Mattg, ah married segments, I see now. Don't have enough points to make a second booking for the waitlist unfortunately!

I'm reopening this for a question about changing an award (but not an identical scenario):

I booked my parents in business to and from Europe for a trip they're taking later this year, using my KrisFlyer miles. The outbound and inbound trips are booked separately, so the proposed changes to the inbound shouldn't affect the outbound at all.

Currently, the inbound is DUB-FRA (LH) connecting to FRA-SIN-SYD (SQ). Dad now has something in Vienna a couple of weeks later, so he may want to reschedule his return (and possibly change origin city). Their inbound tickets are booked under the same PNR but obviously have different eticket numbers. If I managed to find alternative SQ/*A award flights home:

  • I'd prefer not to cancel, wait for redeposit, then rebook and risk losing the seats in the interim. And although I could get the extra miles, I'd prefer not to leave a bunch of unused miles in my KrisFlyer account with a ticking clock. Is it possible to effect this as a change, with the agent using the same miles and not cancelling the existing reservation until the new one is locked in?
  • If a change is possible, can it be done with a different origin city in the same award zone (say, VIE or MUC in place of DUB)? I am aware that a routing change will require change fees, and that's fine.
  • My mother is likely to want to come home on the original itinerary. Can a change be made for only one of the two pax under the PNR, with the other reservation and ticket left intact?
  • I imagine that I'd have to pay the new Europe-Australia rate of 105K, even though the original was booked at the 95K rate?

As an update: The answer to all my questions was yes. (The phone agent seemed extremely competent, which hasn't always been my experience.)

He found the J routing availability I'd identified (DUS-SIN-SYD on SQ for the new date), and also was able to find the partner connecting VIE-DUS flight on OS metal that I had found on UA's site but not during my SQ search.

He confirmed all the details for me, including the extra 10k miles required and a net change cost of SGD2 (fee was SGD27, but taxes came down by SGD25). I transferred the 10k miles in instantaneously from Velocity and he said he'd have to call back while it posted because he couldn't stay on the line.

He called back right away, I gave the go-ahead and he split the bookings and amended Dad's to the new routing and date, and deducted the 10k points from my KrisFlyer account and SGD2 from my credit card.

I now have separate, confirmed and ticketed bookings for each of my parents home from Europe (with Mum on the same original flights), and the original outbound journey is intact too.

So, yes, it is possible, but presumably subject to getting a competent agent.

Glad it worked out for you. Whilst the SQ agents may not always know what to do in the first instance, I have always found them very proactive and helpful in finding a solution.

Yes, he was very helpful and accommodating. Previous SQ agents with whom I've spoken were friendly but not necessarily as knowledgeable as this agent.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
