Changes to QFF points earn rate at Big W instore

I noticed the following message when I logged into my Everyday Rewards account.

"From July 10th, the number of Qantas points members earn when shopping at Big W will change. At Big W Online, members will earn 1 point for every dollar spent and in Big W stores, members will earn 1 point for every $2 dollar spent over $30. By continuing to use your card on or after July 10th - you will constitute deemed acceptance of the amended Terms of Use."

There are more details regarding excluded purchases but the above paragraph seems to cover the changes well. Basically you will earn more points if you shop at Big W Online and less points if you shop instore compared to the previous rules.

I think Big W and Everyday Rewards are trying to claim they can make better offers and have lower prices by making this change but I'm not sure I'll be better off. I rarely go to Big W for base points. It's further for me to go than Target and KMart and I usually prefer the range and prices of goods at these stores. I only go to Big W if I have a targeted offer or there is a really really good price on something I want.

Big W have sent very few reasonable targeted offers this year. I used to get most of my bonus points from Big W but now I get hardly any. I won't be in a rush to shop with them again soon.

I am not going to chase Big W offers nor will I shop online.

Why don't businesses understand that not everyone is interested in the revolution?
 
If they want to compete with Kmart and Targets Flybuys, they are taking a major step back as far as I am concerned.
 
Just saw this change. I read and/or heard somewhere Big W has not been performing as well as the WW group would like. Considering I don't make many big purchases there, but I guess if I was a Apple fan boy I could take advantage of Apple products, but other then that...

I would if their lowest price guarantee hurts them?

Could well be a problem with the Big W division, which has been reported in the business press although their Best Price guarantee has been around forever so difficult to tell if thats the reason for any performance problems. I don't totally understand the economics and mechanics of the QFF points scheme but I remember reading someone else mention that if we see more double points promos then that would indicate that Woolworths are presumably trying to stimulate sales so therefore a cutback in points awarded either means that Woolworths are trying to slow demand/sales (pretty unlikely!) or some other economic reason is behind them awarding less QFF points per $ spent...
 
I notice they been actively price matching more products without promoting.

Like others in this thread, I usually find Kmart a better and cheaper place to shop.

Wouldn't disagree there based on todays experience - I was in a Big W today and couldn't find a single member of staff on the floor (literally did a lap of 75% of the store), and went to the checkouts to find only 2 operators and a huge line of 20-30 people in front of each of the two open checkouts (note that this must be one of the last stores not to have the self serve scanners installed yet). I gave up and went into K Mart (in the same shopping centre) instead. I see this all the time lately, bakers out of bread, shops not open on Sat afternoon etc. Do they not want our money or something?

My findings also. Kmart is almost always cheaper when it comes to the things I buy regularly. On occasions I'd make an effort to go to BigW instead (when the same products weren't available at WW) but with this "enhancement" I won't bother anymore.

I am currently a Big W supplier - was formerly a KMart supplier also until they pulled the rug from under us to source almost identical products direct from China (our packaging still far superior) and now sell at a retail price point basically identical to what we previously supplied at wholesale price. YES Big W are struggling - ongoing internal shake ups.
 
I have accrued many thousands of points over the past 12 months or so from Woolworths & Big W.
My thinking is that as Qantas have raised the price of their points to buyers such as the likes of Woolworths and some banks, this cost is being passed on to customers with less points per dollar spent.
It is likely to be only a matter of time before the increase in the minimum spend is raised above the current $30 across all Woolworths departments
As it is, no matter how many points you have in your "bank" the hardest part is finding seats on flights (particularly international) using points to pay for them.
I was emailed a survey questionnaire from Qantas yesterday asking my views etc on the QF FF programme.
I think that my answers, like many others could be summed up as "NOT HAPPY QANTAS"

Everyday points are harder to come buy this year. Up until Xmas I was averaging nearly 5 QFF points per $ since inception (ignoring the 3 point per $ Amex earn on top of this).
Since Xmas my average points per 4 will have been well under this.


Actually all average point earn is down this year in my coughulative Points Running, with Amex bonii being a lot less generous than they used to be.
 
Big W points enhancement (in store), points bonus (online)

I just received an email with special offers from Big W, no bonus points just specials that you have to activate e.g. Mascara >50% off etc. at the bottom of the email was an announcement stating that from 10 Jul QFF points for shopping in store will now be one point for every *two* dollars over $30.

When shopping online you get one point per dollar as opposed to one point per dollar over $30. I am on my iPad so I am working from my memory, I shall check the details again later when I have a chance to log back onto my email.

Just a heads up to check your Big W offers read the small print at the end of the offers.

I want to look at something before I buy it. I do not believe in ordering from a photo on a screen or a photo on a piece of paper.

I too have trouble with the whole online shopping concept. I want to partake in 'life' - I do not want to be a 'faceless zombie' behind a computer keyboard. To me 'shopping' like many other parts of life is a 'touchy feely' concept - I want to actually physically see, feel and inspect / assess most things I buy - I also love interaction with sales staff and shoppers around me - none of this 'virtual' stuff in 99% of cases.

YES we buy certain stuff off internet - but it's not a concept I pursue with any vigour. But of course we are all individuals and we all see different concepts with different eyes - that is what makes up the rich tapestry of life does it not?

I think you might be right. Bonus point offers have been decreasing across the EDR partners.
 
I too received the email from Big W in relation to the reduction of QFF points earned for instore spend.

Big W have made major category changes to their stores in recent years & certainly are not the " discount department store" they used to be.

One wonders if Woolworths Limited like Qantas may " Enhance" their loyalty program too.

Interesting that Other Woolworths divisions such as Masters, Dan Murphy's, Danks (Home Hardware/Thriftylink/Plants Plus) & ALH ( hotel Arm) do not accept EDR.... I wonder why?

Just returned from a trip to Tassie. EDR not accepted in that state...
