I'll stick to the points, good for those that can take advantage
" If selected, Loyalty Bonus Status Credits do not count towards attaining or retaining Platinum One status. "

Also note that Partner Gold now requires 2400 SC earn on QF/JQ
Anyone get an email about these changes ?
Mr FM received an email at 11:44 mine came at 12:55. Qantas always makes it easier to get/retain status when it starts struggling a bit. Probably going to see more double status credit offers as well...

I dont think i have seen anything saying how this will work. I guess we have to wait and see.
I wonder if its a set and forget type of thing or everytime you reach 500 you get an email and if you dont respond perhaps there is a default option.
I dont need the extra SC's this membership year. I have no hope of making WP1. But they will come in handy when trying to retain next year.

The wording suggests it's choose each time you hit the loyalty bonus - though I suspect the default option will be points if you do nothing.

Another thought occurs in terms of how this will work.

Say I hit a LB tomorrow (actually, I will next week lol)

does this push back QF having to give points (or SC) 90 days? Or do they give points, but if you change to SC in 90 they rescind the points? Surely not because one could redeem them during that time (for toasters, right? :) ).

This suggests a side effect will be pushing this back when they have to give the bonus - unless you select an option to "apply now" rather than having to wait till the 90 days are up.

This could get messy and confusing.. uh I mean simpler and fairer!

"Once selected the reward cannot be changed." (right at the end of the email)

Suggests to me that as soon as you choose one of the options, it gets applied to your account.

I have the email now.

It is a bit bizarre that mine has a picture of a gift wrapped P1 card in it-which seems odd that it doesn't really apply to getting P1 so... it's a bit of false advertising there (but they do make it clear in the email, not just the fine print, that the loyalty bonus SC's don't apply to P1)

I do not see anywhere the requirement for the 2400 SC level though
I'm hoping it's the usual QF website IT work experience guys behind this. The actual Status benefits page remains the same with no requirement for all 2400 SC on QF/JQ.
A friend messaged me on Facebook as I don't have my email yet

I have the email and there is no mention of any change to the 2400 partner benefit. It mentions it as the "Platinum Bonus Reward" and contains a link to the status benefits webpage which also remain unchanged in this respect, stating that the benefit can be earned on eligible Qantas, OneWorld Alliance, Jetstar or Fiji Airways flights.
Where has the idea that it changed come from?

oz_mark tells me that error has been there longer though.

Where in your account do you choose the setting for points or sc?
My next flight will include a bonus and I'd like that to be points.
I was hanging out for a loyalty bonus then went back and read that partner airlines weren't eligible for accrual towards loyalty bonus and the little counter at the bottom was minus 400 sc.

Do the loyalty bonus SC count towards achieving lifetime status? That's a question I'd like an answer to.

They should definitely count towards this. There's no current exclusions to lifetime SC earning.
In that case I think I might choose the loyalty bonus SC all the time unless my flying increases dramatically to the point I start to push for P1, which would be unlikely.

Seeing as it has been brought up, I wonder if we'll all be getting new cards again, or waiting for renewal to get them?
From the email: "New Qantas Frequent Flyer membership card designs will be available from May 2017."
I interpreted the "from May 2017" part as meaning that the new card designs will be issued as memberships renew. It wouldn't seem to be particularly efficient to issue new cards immediately to all members and then have to start sending out new cards again within a matter of weeks if/when membership levels change.

And just to add to the general card design info, the silver card design that was in my email looks like this:

I got the impression that instead of applying automatically, you would have some pop up or something the next time you login where you would choose between points and SC. If you didn't choose within 90 days, you get nothing.

Maybe not?

I imagine an email will be sent to select and/or a prompt when you login to your account.

if they're smart/cool (yeah right) it would be in the app functionality and possibly even send you a push message or something.

A positive enhancement in my opinion. :D :D :D

I do not see that this will lead to increased numbers of WP in the ranks. We must all remember the drop off in WP etc from FIFO members.

Qantas needs bums on seats this could be a good way to achieve that at minimal cost.
