I'm still trying to work out which is better value. Still leaning points at this stage.

If you are shy of making status then credits are good. So in my case I'll take credits for 500 and 1000. After that I'd take the points as I wouldn't get any use of the SC's after that

I think it will depend on your personal circumstances at the time of travel.

100% - I'm likely to hit my status anniversary on 570 SC and about 500,000 points without this change, so 50 SCs is a no-brainer for me to keep SG without having to do a status run....

Goes without saying.

I'm still weighing up the actual value (to me) of each

I'll put my scenario forward, next year I'll hit two bonuses. I've already got enough flying booked to qualify for WP. Is it worth taking the SCs for my lifetime tally, or 16k points which can be redeemed at somewhere between 3 & 5 cents/point?

If I had enough travel for WP and not partner gold I'd be taking the points. The caveat in my statement is I don't need the extra SC's as I have lifetime gold

Comes just in time for Mrs. Orca - she will use it to obtain Gold for the 1st time, to which she'll then apply status hold due pending arrival of Baby Orca.
For myself though I think I'll keep taking the points given I'll retain WP comfortably.

Very true. For me this presents a dilemma. I won't have enough status credits to retain WP (probably 700ish) by my anniversary (Feb). I was hoping this year might offer a WP comp (1st ever). Whether the 50 SCs will tip me over that particular edge, I have no idea. I'll probably stick with the "bird in the hand" (points) and cross my fingers.

I'm taking the SC as not even LTS ... I guess if LTG then points, but that's a few years off ...

The 8,000 points you can get with a case or two of wine on eipqure, so that's not really an issue.

My rule of thumb with any corporate change is to always go with the old.
New policy/product changes are rarely to benefit consumers at the expense of the company.

Here's what you're greeted with...

And when you click the button it takes you to your profile to select.

They may be both check-boxes instead of radio buttons, but you cannot select both... I did try! Selecting one unselects the other. :p

Similar to a points redemption, it'll show on your activity statement immeditely, but you need to log out and back in to see it reflected on your account page. It does appear instantly on the Activity Statement though.

I hope this post helps clear up what happens when you cross the line.

Additional notes, the account in question had 30SC to go, and received 120SC for their flight, leaving 410SC for the next loyalty bonus. The application of the 50SC did not change this figure. Unfortunately I forgot to check the Lifetime Total before I applied the status credits so can't say for sure whether that changed or not. The 990SC became 1040SC as you would expect.

When I rang QANTAS they said that the loyalty bonus SC would count towards lifetime SC but it would be good to get some confirmation of that from real world experience.

It's written into the Terms and Conditions:

20.8.3 When members choose to receive Loyalty Bonus Status Credits, these Status Credits will count towards Silver, Gold and Platinum tier attain and retain, Lifetime Silver and Gold, and Platinum Bonus Reward offer. Loyalty Bonus Status Credits will not count towards the next Loyalty Bonus or Platinum One attain, retain, or other Platinum One additional benefits as per clause 20.6.5.

Posted only as a point of interest that nowhere does it say here (as a reminder) that bonus SC's don't count to P1 status - yes, the email announcing it did as established earlier, but you'd think they'd put a reminder in the pop up/option page.

Anyway no more for me till next September at least :)

Now why on earth would they remind you?! ;):p

QF 50 SC or 8000 points offer

Hi all,

Trying to work out how to set my preference to the 50 SC bonus for every 500 earned, can't work it out, can someone let me know how?

Many thanks

Outbackowner.

Re: QF 50 SC or 8000 points offer

It appears to be a selection you make once you're eligible for the bonus.

Re: QF 50 SC or 8000 points offer

Thanks for that, will keep my eye on it.
Any idea when it expires or is it an ongoing offer?

No expiry, it's an update to the program.

You have a certain time period to make your selection, but so long as you log into your account at least once a month you are not going to miss the message that congratulates you and the button you need to click.
