Re: Changes to Qantas Lounges in Singapore

Well QF still have the Flounge in BKK.Just as in SIN it is a joint lounge with BA.Stopping QF F did not change the situation there for WPs.
The ending of the JSA may well see some changes though.

Re: Changes to Qantas Lounges in Singapore

Seems pointless to have separate lounges for Business class and First Class when they will not likely be offering First Class to/from Singapore.

Plenty of examples - BNE, AKL - maybe more?

BKK would have F customers coming off/on BA from LHR.

And do you think Qantas would spend any money refurbishing the First Lounge in BKK now? Why is SIN any different? Only that the refurbishments started before this announcement and perhaps there are different plans for the First Lounge in SIN.

I think a lot of things will change here which is not good from the perspective of a Qantas frequent flyer and Oneworld.

The First Lounge in BNE may have First in it's name but that is where the comparison stops.

Does anyone have information as to when the new lounges in Singapore will be open? I have seen that Red Roo says in her May posting 'end of the year'. I am going to be in Singapore on 17 Dec and am hoping I will be on the "right" side of the 'end of the year'. LOL

Red Roo is a girl???

Also did AKL ever have F services? Whilst it doesn't compare to the MEL/SYD F Lounges, I guess it's not fair to compare smaller ports with less traffic and hence smaller, older and more basic lounges to those of higher volume ports...

Just because the JSA is ending doesn't mean that OW is ending. Even if QF decided to push their SIN traffic to the EK lounge and not have a joint lounge with BA then OWE and OWS travellng on QF would have access to BA's F lounge.

The contention of longe access between BA and QF was around QP and not OWS/OWE.

Certainly did - but I am not sure when they ceased.

Until the later 90's QF (and AN) operated First services domestically - maybe around the same time.

FWIW, LAN was the most recent carrier to operate First through AKL.

Qantas 747 flights to LAX and South America use to go via AKL. I can remember in 2001 getting an opup to first on a 747 from SYD-AKL that continued on to South America. Qantas were at least still flying first AKL to LAX in 2002. But it has been a few years since Qantas last flew scheduled a first class plane to AKL.

Of course these days you might get the odd A380 diverting there.

Do EK not sell F tickets SYD/MEL/BNE-AKL?
Yes they do - but that fact is Off Topic in reference to Qantas First Class lounges at ports with no QF First Class flight services.

Today being on an EK flight won't get one access to the Qantas First Class section at AKL International unless you are CL.

Yes, but they're reminders of happier days when there was First everywhere, aren't they? :(

Why all the discussion on ports having First services? If you go by many of the comments of WP's they are integral part of QF's WP/OWE offering to attract and retain high value customers. The key metric would have to be number of services/passengers through given port rather than number of F passengers. Whilst on one hand you probably won't see ADL getting an F lounge, on the other hand if First Lounges were designed for First Passengers the lounges in MEL and SYD would be much much smaller.....

My point was that Qantas was spending/has spent money on making the First Lounge bigger and now have all but pulled out of SIN.

There will still be AU-SIN flights and vv. happening, as well as the fact that some EK services will be going via SIN.

Yes I know but there will be reduced traffic.

Re: Changes to Qantas Lounges in Singapore

In the end JohnK it's chump change compared to the benefits and savings of going via DXB

And it's not like the cost is fully borne by QF and it will never be used. Still plenty of AU-Sin flights will occur and BA will pay their share.
