Changes to Qantas Club Access

Two major changes I see of value:

Your guest doesn't need to be travelling.

Flying Australian Airlines now allow access to the QC.

What about members with families travelling, who joined on the understanding that they would be entitled to lounge access with more than one guest?
They have used wording 'unlimited' to mislead the public, and the piece de resistance is that they do not quote the price for Annual Guest Card.

Yeah, I often travel with partner and two kids, no dramas in the past, as a Gold I get one guest on for free, surrender a guest pass for the first brat, and the second brat normally gets in on a guest pass anyway.

Not sure how it will work as far as kids go with the new rules, I reckon there will be a HUGE backlash if they start telling family groups "You and your partner are allowed in, your kids will have to stay outside though". It is the same as denying access to the lounge, the kids consume bugger all whilst in there wanyway.

It's not just the families who will miss out. A lot of companies limit the number of members of QC to those who would be considered to be the more frequent travellers (obviously). There have been circumstances where a senior person is accompanied by more than one colleague who need guest passes. If the whole basis of the QC is to provide a pre flight business facility this will not work. The numbers in the club at any one time should of course be monitored but there should be some commonsense applied in respect to the guests wanting to use the lounge. Surprisingly many are there to do work and aren't in it for the freebies. Lets face it anyway, very rarely is there excess demonstrated in the lounge.

Also noticed that from 1 June 2004 the Denpasar lounge won't be available to Qantas passengers. Another reason not to go back to Bali!

Like you needed one?

... it also proves QF customer service lurks these corridors or flyertalk. I seem to remember another discussion where I said I travelled on another carrier but still went down to the QP for the comfort/drinks, etc. Someone has decided to tighten up on the loopholes.
I also will be royally pi$$ed if I can't get my brats in to the QP when family travelling. :(

Has enyone actually been back to QF and asked the question about families :?:
If so, and there is a positive answer where is it written as I wouldn't just accept one verbal answer on this :!:

:? :? :?

Correct me if I'm wrong, Redrat, but you're platinum, aren't you ?

Ergo, you should be able to access the QC (QP) at any time...

I've a bundle of unused guest passes at work - does this mean that I cant give them to friends when they might be travelling on their own?

You never could anyway - the Guest Passes only entitled a guest to admission WHEN ACCOMANYING a Qantas Club member (or a Gold or Platinum).

and aren't they useless now post 1 July as there is an automatic entry now without need for Guests passes...so keep them for prosterity, when you've got the grandkids on your knees..."when I was younger, this is what we used to use to get into the QP's..."

What's QANTAS, Grandad?

Lounge Access Bali

Only noticed from a previous post that Qantas is withdrawn lounge access in Bali, cheapskates. Does anyone know if you can use the Premier Lounge under the guise of a oneworld member as Cathay still as lounge access there?

Thanks in advance as I'm heading there later in the year.

Qantas Club access

Travelling to Perth just 2 weeks ago, attendant in Melb QC lounge said "one guest only" under new rules. Similarly in Canberra just prior to June 1, I was denied access because I was not flying that day - in for a meeting but was refused access!

Interesting!

Families

I am flying in Sept from Melb to Brisbane through Sydney (damn useless points).

I will have the wife along with 4 year old and 11 year old.
Will be very interested to see what success rate I have with entry to the QC, esp the International lounge at Melb (damn useless points)

I asked a nice young lady behind the counter at Sydney domestic QC about child entry and she said that Sydney domestic does not 'count' children as guests, but that that is not 'official' policy and she could not guarantee what other lounges would do.

If you've got a few thousand of those "damn useless points" you want to get rid of....

Can I have them?

(really)... want does that mean? ("damn useless points")

I have got the following replies from SYD (dom), CBR and BNE (dom) staff - not sure about MEL (who seem to be somewhat anally retentive about who they let in, but go figure).

They will NOT split up family groups, provided the adults do not exceed the number that should normally be admitted. SYD have also advised they will not split up a family IF it is a leisure group, namely Gold, spouse, Gold's parents (making three guests) and Gold's kids (meaining two extra guests).

Looking at the reason for them policy, I think this is fair enough, they ar trying to stop the lounges from becoming overcrowded with person A travelling to MEL, with a guest travelling to BNE and a guest travelling to ADL and another guest travelling to PER.

Provided it IS a family group, and all are travelling together, I don't think there will be a probelm (even in MEL, but don't hold me to this one).
