Are you still a member of HPC?

Are the $99 rate cards still valid even though we are no longer members? I gave 2 of these away a while back. I wonder if that $99 rate card has been used yet? :)

Nope, not a member of the old HPC or the new Mac-Hilton scheme.

No idea if the $99 cards from the old HPC are still valid. I still have mine that was issued to me in my membership pack.

I recently enquired about using a $99 rate card from the pre-Macquare days and was told if I was a current member than it was fine to use it.

Just received an e-mail from HPC again saying "we've been unable to contact you... update your details for a complimentary bottle of wine or one full buffet breakfast, when you next stay at Hilton".

Ditto here. All the details were correct - but in the wrong fields. Eg mobile number in home number, work number in mobile number field. This is despite already correcting the details several months ago in response to a similar email.

Ah well. There goes my theory.

Apart from serfty, and possibly Lindsay Wilson, has anyone joined the new Macquarie HPC scheme?

I have joined Macquarie HPC too. I'm none too impressed about the change and the requirement to have a Macquarie Platinum card that I don't need. It was a huge decrease in cost/benefit in comparison to the special deal Straitman was able to negotiate two and a bit years ago.

With respect to the $99 rate cards, has anyone been successful in using one card for (a) multiple consecutive nights at the one property or (b) multiple rooms on multiple consecutive nights at the one property?

I have a confirmed booking for four nights at the $99 rate at one of the Australian Hiltons, booked through the HPC portal, for a total of $396. However, even though the website has confirmed it, it would seem it's in violation of the HPC T&Cs as I only have on rate card. Will I be asked for four?

I'm very pleased to say my single $99 rate card was accepted for two rooms, two nights at the Hilton on the Park Melbourne recently. Additionally, my Diamond benefits were extended to both rooms. This was in stark contrast to the Hilton South Wharf where I had four consecutive nights booked and confirmed using one $99 rate card. One day before check-in I received a call from the property saying unless I had four individual $99 cards (which itself is against the T&Cs which state you can't use them back-to-back) would the rate be honoured. There was no admission or acceptance that their booking engine had allowed the 'error', an error that, I might point out, was corrected prior to the call from the hotel.

anat01, if you'd like a HPC member for a stay card, I've got two gathering dust - PM me.

If you still have one available I would love it - trying to book a weekend for my family in Sydney and as our daughter is not under 18 can't get any type of discount for the second room.

Quite honestly I think you can do a lot better than the Hilton when staying in Sydney.

Golly. MacBank have tracked me down and sent me an offer to sign up with them.

While they could have applied to the ACCC to allow them to behave in such a way, they did not. Indeed, in the notification to the ACCC about the proposed behaviour in relation to the operation of the card they explicitly stated that payment on the card was not required.

See the pdf linked from this page (Hilton Hotels of Australia Pty Limited - Notification - N94280) for a description of their proposed behaviour. The second paragraph is quite explicit about the behaviour with regard to the use of the card in the hotels.
Indeed, many thanks oz_mark for finding and posting this little gem

That's gold, oz_mark. Sounds like travellers planning on dropping in at the Hilton Melbourne Airport should print out the first few pages to take with them.
Indeed I have, Danger and will see if I need to use tonight/tomorrow morning when checking in and out. If they try, I'll tell them to get their shovel and keep digging.:D:evil:

Thank God I did print out the ACCC Letter and attachment (and highlighted the relevant paragraph in the submission), because at check out this morning, the CSA wanted to charge my MacBank/HPC CC. I dipped into my FF bag, brought out the letter, gave it to him sugesting he check with the FOM. He disappeared behind the wall and came back apologising. Still doesn't instill me with confidence as this is the second time in as many visits.

They'd better process my double points corectly, or there'll be an erruption at Wilson HQ.

There has to be a kicker in it for them to keep doing it, I wonder how many less informed folks have been taken for a ride.

I'm about to use a "member for a stay card" (obtained when I was a member of the Hilton Premium Club) at the Brisbane Hilton for the AFF weekend. Shouldn't be any problem should there? When I went to activate the card, I got a 4 digit code....do I just mention that code at checkin and hand in the card??

Hmmm, my recollection from the old system was that you rang up and gave them the activation code, then all was okay. Not sure whether there is an edict on the MacBank web site about those "old" ones.

They work fine, and yes give them the card when you checkin.
