I have recently returned home from an overseas holiday. I upgraded to Business Class Qantas Melbourne-Singapore using QFF points. I was very disappointed with the service, menu and drinks served. I was assured by a friend in the airline industry that I would be served French champagne, and have top class food, and get waited on like a 5 star restaurant. (Maybe he was getting mixed up with F class). Obviously the hype he conveyed to me was OTT. After take off I was given a Grant Burge Pinot Noir chardonnay. I was rather taken a-back, because I thought they only served French in J class, silly me! And I live in South Australia, where Grant Burge wines come from. So I then asked for French wines for the rest of the trip. The menu was not all that inspiring, considering Neil Perry designed it! I did not see the airline staff after the meal, and if I wanted a drink I had to call them. Considering the aircraft only had J and Y class, I thought it was going to be more "upmarket".

On the return trip - Qantas Hong Kong-Sydney, the food was awful. Choice of 2 Asian dishes and a pasta dish - linguine with mashed pumpkin, zucchini, and peas. Considering I had been in Asia for 40 days, I selected the pasta - but it tasted so awful I couldn't/didn't eat it. The pumpkin was in cubes and it was, and looked, uninspiring, to say the least. I have flown many times, on different airlines, but to me the Qantas planes look very old and tired, and the meals unexciting. I think next time I travel I will take my own meals, or order something prior to boarding.

Qantas used to serve Champagne on these flights and IIRC that was only recently.

Maybe a catering issue?

They were certainly serving Champagne on SYD-HKG-SYD about 3 weeks ago...

There was definitely champagne both pre-departure and throughout the flight on my recent BNE-NRT and HKG-MEL flights (both within the last 7 days).

Food was uninspired but standard fare for QF Business, menus attached for those interested.

I’ve only seen Grant Burge sparkling in Dom J. Sounds like catering issues on your flights. Not surprised to read aboyt NP menu tho, the food on QF J is mediocre at best.
