Chairman's QC Lounge

I'm a Chairman of a national company and used to fly QANTAS for domestic travel however I've changed to using Virgin becuase its cheaper. Times are getting hard with cash flow these days......

We book our own travel and find it easier to do so, so I guess my invitation to CL won't be happening :( and really with only 6 flights per month (between 3 persons) average why would they bother.

Indeed if that was all it took for CL status then a lot of AFFers would qualify.

There would appear to be a number of other benefits.... escorted young Lachlan to the baggage carousel and then the QF person waited whilst he cleared customs. (although I noticed Lachlan had to push his own trolley so it can't be that good)

Hi, I'm new here and find this thread fascinating!

I'll preface by saying it's pretty unlikely I'll end up in CL.

I'm not the son/daughter of any chair-person, pollie, or anyone else "important". I'm a self-made person who doesn't run a huge corp (just an SME), and I don't fly all that much. I sit up front because I pay for it -- well, biz usually does for me -- and I'm pretty good at finding my way to baggage carousels and getting through customs. Well, unless I'm pissed, and then it's dodgy ;), but even then I do make it!!!

Mind you, I always organise a limo pick-up -- that's my concession to comfort and ease.

Frankly, I think the people who spend week-in, week-out on planes deserve perks, rather than the chairman types. But that's my opinion.

Now that I'm about to retire I'm going to have plenty of time for travel, but I'll still pay for sitting in first or biz and normal club lounges are cool with me.
I also like trying different airlines (some girls, like me, hate being bored!) and prefer not to be hog-tied to one.

But, if on the unbelievably unlikely event of becoming a member -- who knows what post-retirement might bring; I am only 40 after all -- I'll be sure to give an account (although, sounds like you've got plenty of resources here already.)

Anyway, this was really a 'saying hi' post, and a thank you for all the great info! I certainly appreciate the wisdom of you frequent travellers -- which is better than bloody Amex Platinum travel!

I would also like to add my welcome to AFF skorat!:D

Regarding female persuasion that would never be a problem here and should be considered an additional benefit that could not be obtained via status runs.

skorat, adding my welcome to AFF ...

Quite an interesting first post. And you're in good company; I'm sure that many of the regular posters here have once or twice attended baggage carousels under the influence of an HP or two ...

Thanks SeatBackForward and Altair. Altair, I'm relieved!

Serfty, I hope the "interesting post" isn't in a bad way. :p

I guess this is now waaaaaaay OT, so I should move on now!

Certainly Off Topic... No worries, I meant interesting as in entertaining. ;) Looking forward to your further input ... :D

 Look, I'm  - a self-moderating member

 If only there were more of them :D ;) ....

Now back to normal programming...a discussion on Chairman's Lounge

Then again I believe here anything in relation to HP's is, ipso facto, on topic ... :p

And that WAS on topic.

Well we can see how excited you are about the topic SeatBackForward. Before it went off topic, it was a decent thread.

Re: Qantas Chairmans Lounge

One wonders if the membership and criteria will change if the private equity bid gets up.

Sorry I'll clear myself up -
This thread itself is good, just as the board itself is.
But the Chairmans Lounge is very *yawn* worthy.

As in *YAWN* its not that big a deal.

I'm glad you cleared that up :!:

Quick question…how does Chairman’s Lounge access interface with the OneWorld Airlines’ cross-privilege agreement? http://www.oneworld.com/ow/ffp/lounge-access
While, I can see those who are SG (Sapphire) have limited access “welcome in any of the exclusive airline pre-flight Business Class and Frequent Flyer lounges, OW then states WP (Emerald) have access to ANY exclusive pre-flight lounge “be welcome in any of the exclusive airline pre-flight lounges, including First Class, Business Class and Frequent Flyer lounges” – this 3 part list seems suggestive rather than exhaustive. Or is it that the Chairman’s Lounge is NOT an “exclusive pre-flight lounge”?

CL is a private lounge. Not really an exclusive lounge. Big difference :)

Although CL does also bestow "OneWorld Emerald" onto it's members, so they have all of the privileges of OneWorld Emerald when they're not flying Qantas or BA.

I must try your suggestion next time I'm in SYD or MEL though. Will be funny to see the reaction when I bring out the OneWorld writeup on Lounge Access...

Hi Mal, good luck, it will definitely be interesting to know how you go. (But, in-line with your thoughts, I presume QF FF terms would take precedence over OW terms. Thus when accessing Qantas services you get treated as WP, only other OW passengers would be able to quote Emerald rights.)

My guess is - the OW access terms are written to ensure each OW carrier allows the maximum privileges to the other carriers’ priority customers. In particular, this would be designed to stop an individual carrier from offering a “private label” level of service to their premium customers, while giving a different (lower) level to their alliance airlines’ equivalent passengers.

So strangely, I wonder if those in the AA or CX programs are more able to claim CL access rights, than QF WP!
