Qantas Chairmans Lounge

Can someone please explain what the chairman’s lounge actually is??

I haven’t really heard too much about it & it doesn’t really appear much on Qantas's website or media.

My understanding is the chairman’s lounge is not part of the Qantas Club program and the lounges are totally separate and are only available for use by passengers travelling in Business and first class. Are there any other differences

Can someone give me the full run down?

Thanks

Chairmans Lounges are exclusive lounges for VIPs - that is, people who are "chairmans lounge" members. These are politicians, celebrities, CEOs, etc.

chairman’s lounge is not part of the Qantas Club program
Correct.

lounges are totally separate
Correct.

are only available for use by passengers travelling in Business and first class
.
Incorrect. Class of travel has nothing to do with access - though I'm sure there is a strong correlation between CLs and business and first class.

Pretty much everything. There's heaps of info on this forum, so do a search and I'm sure you will find everything you need :D

The Chairman's Lounge membership is by invitation only. People whom Qantas would like to bestow the privilege usually include senior management of large corporations, decision makers behind large travel budgets, politicians and similar people of influence (such as union leaders).

Chairman's Lounge membership also includes Qantas Frequent Flyer membership with a status ahead of Platinum. So it also includes complementary Qantas Club membership, providing access to Qantas and parner lounges at airports where a CL does not exist.

How do you get invited to the QC Chairmans Lounge? I have seen it at Sydney airport, also do they have it at INt'l airports?

If you need to ask you do not qualify.
The general opinion is influence on corporate pushasing QF tickets or people of importance or pollies (Kim may now loose his CL pass!!). How much you fly got nought to do with CL.

You need to know a Chairmans Lounge member who is willing to invite you to the lounge. And as far as being invited to be a member, I suggest you search this site as there are several threads that outline the type of people and positions that are invited to become members.

There are no Chairmans Lounges at the international terminals. CL members are invited to use the First Class lounge when travelling internationally.

I always wonder whats behind the other door thats all...

its like until you fly a certain class on an airline you wonder is it better or not.

don't know any qantas senior management only engineers.

I am trying to work out how the benefits of a slightly more secluded lounge correlate to giving someone A$1million plus of revenue. Even a corporate hog like me would like to see a few more other benefits - I dont think the lounge would be enough...

It isn't just the lounge.

It's OneWorld Emerald status. Special treatment with BA and Qantas including access to restricted lounges, free upgrades (space permitting and some other stuff permitting) on certain flights. Extra special treatment when flying etc.

It's more than just the lounge :)

I guess then that will be most use to someone who is a non-flying non-CEO/CFO

Personally for my future employment if I have a job that needs me to fly enough to be concerned about lounge access then I need to be flying enough to be oneworld emerald ;)

I can see some great benefits on the existance of the Chairmans Lounge. The main one is that it keeps the politicians out of the regular lounges :p .

There would appear to be a number of other benefits. On 30th August this year I was in F on QF73 to SFO and young Rupert Murdoch's son Lachlan O'Hare was in F also (naturally). I assume he would have been in the CL in Sydney, but when we arrived at SFO one of the QF SFO senior personnel with an Aussie accent came onto the ac and escorted young Lachlan to the baggage carousel and then the QF person waited whilst he cleared customs. (although I noticed Lachlan had to push his own trolley so it can't be that good) I didn't see what happened after that because the rest of the F pax on the flight, and F was only half full, had to struggle with our own bags and go through the normal procedures etc.

I've been in the chairmans lounge. Its not that crash hot. Just another ego boost to those who feel they need it I suppose.

Agree 100%. The SYD CL is quite small indeed and gets quite boring after a while. The QP has a better atmosphere and you can relax alot better in the QP where as in the CL it feels like someone is always watching you, staff and other CL members.

I'm a regular in the CL in my job, which involves a fair bit of interstate travel.

Melbourne CL is good, Sydney CL is in dire need of an update (Sydney QP is actually better), Perth CL is cough, Brisbane CL lame.

Best CL is actually Adelaide (who would have thought!), mainly because it's in a beautiful new airport and not many people use it.

Even though Lachlan isn't with News Limited any more, he's probably still be in CL by any one of the various options:

* courtesy of his previous CL membership (as he left News less than 12 month ago?) and his own CIP status
* as a function of Rupert's influence (as a CIP and head of arguably one of QF's Top 10 companies by spend on QF products)
* as an invitee of the QF Board (through his friendship with at least one of the current Board members, ie. James Packer)

The joys of membership of that august club....

Interesting update kelpie - understandable about ADL being the best.

I've been in BNE and in the old CBR one with a CL (albeit a while ago) and I would definitely chose the QP's for my comfort (but not for some of the other benefits  ).

Do I detect a hint of jealousy?

No chance Kiwi Flyer. I'm happy being Plat (and probably Gold from 1 March 2007) and getting access to a bigger club with more amenities - that means as much to me as the perks of CL membership (auto upgrades where available comes to mind as the major benefit differential between it and Plat)
