Off topic a little. Did the United flights include checked baggage? Qf sales wanted to sell me a similar itinerary recently and said checked baggage would be included since it was part of an international itinerary.

I am sceptical that a Unites US domestic flight booked through Qantas would include any baggage.

While I think you are entitled to it, in reality it doesn't always work that way and I have had to, when in a bit of a hurry just pay up and shut up at the check in rather than spend the time explaining and asking them to check the rules.

If the UA flight is ticketed as part of a QF international ticket and the ticket is to/from the US or CA, then yes the UA flight will include baggage as per QF's baggage rules. Stopping over or not enroute doesn't change the situation either.
Doesn't it depend on the Marketing Carrier flight number used for MSC on the first journey and apply for the entire booking as per IATA 302 DOT exception?

I have made some assumptions based on what's possible in such a situation to simplify my answer into something more easily understood.

A QF international ticket will always have QF as transpacific carrier. QF also cannot sell domestics on anything other than their own primes.

That means that other than for award tickets (which UA would never be a part of), a commercial QF ticket to the US or CA will always have QF as the MSMC (most significant marketing carrier).

Slightly off topic, but I thought I’d use the search function and figured this was better than starting a new thread.

Anyone been to YVR recently who can comment on the lounges there?

I’m on QF76 back to Sydney in December. The default QF Lounge is plaza premium, but looks like the BA lounge will be open as well. Looks like the CX lounge will be closed (flight is at 8pm). So I guess it’s BA vs Plaza Premium.

Any thoughts?
