Cathay Pacific upgrading to a new reservations system on 11/12 February. Web site, online check-in, ticket purchases to be unavailable for a portion of that weekend

Cathay Pacific Airways will change over to a new passenger reservations system the weekend of 11 and 12 February. The new technology will replace an in-house system introduced in the 1980s. This will ensure Cathay Pacific can continue to meet passengers’ needs in the future.

During the transition, it will be necessary for the airline to temporarily suspend certain customer facing technology. This includes Cathay Pacific’s Web site, Online Flight Bookings, Ticket Bookings, Airfares, Promotions - Cathay Pacific International, and its mobile sites.

The airline’s flight schedule over the weekend, however, will be unaffected by the changeover.

...

The new Altéa reservation and inventory system is provided by Amadeus, the same reservations system used by the majority of oneworld alliance carriers. Cathay Pacific is a founding member of oneworld.

Mr Chu continued: “Preparations for this change began several years back as it is quite a massive undertaking. For example, as just one part of the process during the cutover, we will migrate more than 1 million passenger bookings between systems. Unfortunately, as we modify the reservations system and more than 40 down line systems, we’re forced to temporarily suspend some of the conveniences that our customers appreciate and count on. We appreciate their understanding and patience for these necessary measures.”

The Cathay Pacific Web site will be taken offline worldwide at approximately 3 pm Hong Kong time on Saturday, 11 February. Functionality will be brought back online in stages throughout the day on Sunday, 12 February. The majority of the site will be available by 8 pm on Sunday Hong Kong time. ...

Hope they've done their testing!!

Will be great to have them on Amadeus (instead of Cupid?) though.

It doesn't really matter in the end, so long as it works...

I disagree. Amadeus is the oneWorld standard these days, and has many benefits. For example, one of the biggest benefits to QF FF'ers is that bookings on Cathay should now appear in your Upcoming flights on the QF site. That alone is great.

Didn't they already use Amadeus and this I just an upgrade?

Also the my flights app uses Amadeus references NOT CX references so you manually had to add CX flights and thus didn't get any updates or seating info. It is for that reason that I moved to TripIt from MyFlights and will now move back (most of my intl flights are CX).

I wonder how existing bookings will be affected.

They have used parts of Amadeus for a while - the web booking engine has been on Amadeus for a few years. However, mostly they have been on Cupid.

Presumably, existing reservations would be converted to Amadeus and be given a new PNR..?

I am assuming so - not sure what the process will be to notify PAX - so if I want to go in and change seats do I then have to use the eticket ref to get the new PNR?

Correct:

Will my reservation/confirmation number change after the new system goes live?

Yes, a new reservation number will be created but previous reservation numbers can still be used as a cross-reference even after the system upgrade.
If passengers cannot find their reservation online after 12 February, they should call their local Cathay Pacific office. The phone number for your local office is available on cathaypacific.com before and after the system upgrade is completed.

Do we think that CX is likely to add the capacity to book PE fares on their website as part of this upgrade?

CX Bookings are already showing on my QF Bookings page. Though unfortunately doesn't show seat assignment yet.

ETA: Also, booking class seems to be incorrect. CX shows mine as Economy (K), whereas Qantas shows Economy (V)

I have had CX bookings appear previously as part if a QF issued Done4.

If ticketed with Qantas (i.e. 081- ticket no.), then those segments generally appear being part of the Amadeus booking reference.

I have had AA (001-) ticketed xONEx's where only the BA/QF segments and connections thereof showed under the Amadeus booking reference.

It was ticketed directly with CX with only one CX segment. 160- ticket no. On my Qantas Bookings page it also has a new 6-digit (assuming Amadeus) PNR#

Interesting, maybe your PNR was part of a test migration

Perhaps. There are a few bugs it seems. Other than what I noted about booking class and seat assignment, there's an error with the booking name. Instead of "Mr Eosphoros Surname", it says "Eosphorosmr Surname". The same also shows on checkmytrip.com

Hopefully after the full migration this weekend it will fix itself. Or maybe I should alert CX to the problem?

I recently had LONE4 with final flights being with CX. CX bookings showed on QF manage my bookings but vanished after completing a BA leg of the journey. Same thing happened with our AA flights - only showed when we hadn't done our QF and BA sectors - but once BA sector flown were no longer in the system. Interestingly had to apply for AA and CX status credits/points on return to AUS as they didn't automatically appear in our accounts.
