Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

CX138 on Sunday 5 June took off at 2313 from SYD for HKG, needing a Ministerial delegate's dispensation to do so.

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

On Sunday 12 June 2016, the morning flight from MEL to HKG, CX134, the 0745 hours departure is expected to push back at around 0955. While from observation this flight often picks up time, more than two hours in a departure delay is a bridge too far to arrive punctually.

Flight times on the CX134 have been a little faster lately, but still a few days where it has been over 9.5 hours. A few weeks ago it was well over 9 hours every day of the week.

Seems i was lucky on my recent trip with an on time departure of my 134. Arriving after 5.30pm in HKG is problematic in terms of traffic.

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Interesting observation MEL_Traveller.

FR24 is showing the delayed CX134 as a '1001 hours' timetabled departure ex MEL, which it wasn't: it was the 0745 hours. It took off at 1052 and is arriving in HKG at a predicted 1810 hours, subject to MEL_Traveller's cautionary note above. Its normal arrival is 1520 hours so the delay will mean many lost connections for those travelling to mainland China, Philippines or elsewhere.

It shouldn't have such a major impact on connections: with a single ticket you will be protected on a later service, and CX has high frequencies. If you are on separate tickets you should have allowed at least three to four hours connection time anyway (although you'd be pushing it it you only allowed three hours in this case).

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The morning 0745 hours MEL - HKG, CX134 (A333 B-HLS) on Wednesday 15 June took off at 0847 and should arrive at about 1554, 34 minutes late.

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

CX161 on Thursday 23 June was meant to depart at 2130 hours but did not take off until 0019 this morning (Friday 24) so arrival in SYD is expected at about 1104, 139 minutes behind time. Aircraft is A333 B-LAD.

As a result, CX162 is expected to depart SYD at 1210 rather than 1005. 1210 is a very tight turnaround but is (just) possible if everything goes well.

UPDATE: CX162 departed at 1233, with HKG arrival forecast at 1954, 124 minutes late.

CX101 from HKG that should arrive in SYD at 1055 on Sunday 10 July is expected to instead pull in two hours late at 1255.

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

CX111 (1850 hours Monday 11 July) did not take off until 2101. On Tuesday 12, A333 B-LAX is expected to arrive at the SYD terminal (ex HKG) at about 0731, 81 minutes late.

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

CX110 on Monday 25 July, the 0730 hours SYD to HKG, did not take off until 0832. Arrival should be about half an hour late at 1540 with A330 B-LBJ undertaking the task.

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

On Monday 1 August, CX162, the 1005 SYD - HKG (A333 B-HLS) took off at 1112 so arrival should be about half an hour late at 1820 this evening.

CX104 and CX178 (respectively mid afternoon 1420 and evening 2330 hours hours MEL - HKG) have been cancelled, presumably due to Tropical Cyclone Nida.

Due to typhoon Nida, HKG airport is closed and tons of flights got cancelled. This include a whole bunch of CX flights from/to Australia ....

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Many thanks kamchatsky. CX's flight cancellations commenced at 2200 hours on Monday 1 August and are until 1400 hours today (2 August), a 16 hour period.

It's always better to be on the ground wishing we were in the air, than being in the air wishing we were on the ground.

Typhoons are a good reason to stay on the ground.

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

My CX754 BKK-HKG is delayed by about 10 hours today.
It was an AA award booking, connecting to QF128 HKG-SYD, which I would have missed.
They had me fairly quickly rebooked onto QF24 BKK-SYD, which I thought was a good result in the circumstances, even if it's an A332 with Skybed 1 and I miss out on the HKG lounges.

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

On Monday 15 August, CX139, the 0910 hours HKG - SYD took off at 0950 with aircraft B773ER with aircraft B-KQP. It should arrive at about 2036, 31 minutes behind time.

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

While not a passenger flight, CX29, the 2340 hours Sunday 21 August freighter that took off from HKG early at 2231 appears on Monday 22 August to be diverting to MEL instead of its usual SYD destination, with MEL arrival forecast at about 0911 instead of the usual SYD tarmac parking bay time of 1030. B747 B-LJJ is the aircraft.

FlightAware however suggests that this flight was always meant to come to MEL, but Google claims it is a SYD-bound flight.

The Friday 7 October 2016 arriving CX137, a redeye from HKG to PER, should do so at around 0621, 31 minutes tardy. Aircraft is A333 B-HLQ.

B-LBJ 'All the way with LBJ' to remind older AFFers of a famous Australian saying from the 1960s is on CX161, the 2130 hours Thursday 6 October HKG - SYD that was airborne at 2246; arrival at the gate today (7 October) should be at around 1047, 62 minutes behind the demands of the timetable.

CX161 into SYD on Sunday 9 October is again late, with arrival suggested as 1018, 33 minutes down. B-LAP is the A333.

With the severe north wind in MEL on Sunday 9, CX105 from HKG should be at the gate at about 1300 hours, 35 minutes late. A333 B_LAK is the plane.
